    Help with options

    OK - my first topic on Rennteam!!

    I'm preparing an order for a 997 C4S and am looking for assistance on some of the optional equipment selections.

    1. I love the shifter in my 996 but generally believe that shorter is better. On the other hand, some short-throw shifters can be very notchy. Can anyone tell me about the short-throw option on the 997? Does anyone regret having it?

    2. Is the tire pressure monitoring system worthwhile? Does it tell you the air pressure in each tire or just alert you if pressure is low?

    3. I really dislike the grey colored trim in the 997's interior.
    a. Is it possible to get aluminum trim on the sport steering wheel's airbag surround and on the instrument dial bevels? I know aluminum is available on the three-spoke wheel, but I really want the sport steering wheel.
    b. I know I can get aluminum trim on the center stack around the monitor and HVAC switches, but will it match the C4S's standard silver colored trim around the vents and on the trim strip in front of the passenger, or do I need to order those in aluminum as well?

    4. I think that standard rear center console looks pretty good, but does anyone have any experience or pictures of the console in leather?

    2. I think TPMS will be standard on 07 models

    4. if you get full leather, rear console in leather is a must

    Got short shifter and sports chrono plus,both are great IMO. Yes, the short shifter is a little notchy and on cold morning starts it may be hard to downshift to 1st gear, but once warmed up it's nice and smooth, though not as buttery smooth as std shifter but to me way shorter, and very pleasant to the feel.

    According to all the mag reviewers the 997 shifter is muuuuuuuch better than the 996 era shifter. They used superlatives like "perfect" and "brilliant" to describe the improvement. You might not want to "upgrade" the stock 997 shifter since the situation is much different than the 996 where everybody did the upgrade (installed an aftermarket B&M) almost without thinking.

    Go for factory short shifter, u won't regret it! Or test drive one with a short throw, you'll be won over.

    what about PSE?? The exhaust system done at the factory is sooo important too.........just a suggestion ;-)

    I just listed the options that I have questions about. I have no question about the sport exhaust!!

    THE SHORT SHIFTER IS WORTHWILE
    YOU CAN GET JUST ABOUT ANY GREY/ ALUM. INTERIOR PART PAINTED TO ANY COLOR
    THE SPORT CHRONO WITH PSE IS A MUST, THEY WORK GREAT TOGETHER
    MY SALESMAN TALKED ME OUT OF THE TIRE PRESSURE SYSTEM
    I DIDN'T GET THE REAR CONSOLE IN LEATHER AND IT LOOKS FINE

    2) I'd order it. It comes in handy and is pretty cheap. Doesn't it come as standard in '07 models anyway?

    3a) Unfortunately, no, it is not.

    3b) Yes, it's the same color. The trim is actually not genuine aluminum, but aluminum-painted plastic (hence the name "Alu Design" interior). On a side note, the base C2 and C4 get it in Volcano Grey, not Alu Design like the C2S and C4S.

    Also, if you order sport seats (sport seats or adaptative sport seats), you'll want the back in leather or exterior color, instead of the Volcano Grey plastic they usually come with.

    4) Definitely get the leather rear console with a full leather interior.
    I'd also get the storage compartment lid with Porsche crest or with Carrera 4S logo. The leather rear console has a double stitching on the sides which the stock storage compartment lid does not. The optional lids come with this double stitching. As a result, everything flows well together.
    Have a look at the 3D Car Configurator on the official website if you have trouble visualizing what I mean.

    If you are doing the Rear Center console in Leather, I would also get Door Finishers in Leather. This way the two biggest plastic interior bits are instead finished in the finished leather - it adds a lot! The door finishers are affordable!

    And while you're at it you'll need to get the dash full leather treatment (option EAA) to take some of the cheap looking metal imitation away. The you're done. Really.
