    Sharkwerks RS350 kit

    http://www.sharkwerks.com/products.php?pid=185

...Looks appetizing. Has anybody tried this kit?

Tuning on a N/A engine ? Not really a fan of it.

Sport exhaust ? Why not...as long as the sound doesn't change in a way that a Porsche sounds like a Ferrari or a BMW afterwards.

    Re: Sharkwerks RS350 kit

Why not? The GTS has a tuned S engine. It is just a different fuel map and a more efficient air intake on a N/A engine. It does make a big difference, having driven one back-to-back with my own Carrera S on the Nordschleife.

The same can be done on the 987... and it is what Porsche themselves do to differentiate between the Boxster S, Spyder and Cayman R power outputs. Just "tuning" the electronics.

I have most of that Sharkwerks kit on my car, except for the exhaust since I like the PSE sound and did not want to mess with it, and it is a huge difference compared to the original parts. It is as quick as a 997.1 through the gears and quicker than my 997.2 in 1st gear (not much use for 1st gear acceleration, but the throttle response is highly addictive and fun).

awai08, I would recommend the following parts:

    • Different fuel map (i.e. ECU software)
    • V-Flow air intake
    • GT3 throttle body
    • IPD competition plenum
    • Single-mass flywheel

If you are comfortable with DIY all parts except for the flywheel is easy to install. Out with the old, in with the new indecision

Once you are done with that, move on to the suspension (coil-overs and anti-roll bars) and lightweight wheels. Then you have a very competent track weapon at hand.

...or save the money and get a Spyder smiley

bluelines:  Once you are done with that, move on to the suspension (coil-overs and anti-roll bars) and lightweight wheels. Then you have a very competent track weapon at hand.

Well, I would still be a little cautious with the oiling system on the 987.1.  Not sure I would want to build a "track weapon" on the basis of a 987.1 motor.  I've read many stories of failures from people who did that.

I think your suggestion of buying a Spyder (or Cayman R) might be a better one - or even starting with a 987.2 of any klnd before suspension mods.

    Re: Sharkwerks RS350 kit

Ah, thanks for all the replies -especially Bluelines. Sounds like your car must be especially fun to drive!  As re. my car, I wouldn't have any plans to track it, so would the lightened flywheel make the car any less usable in normal driving? Also, how does the ECU reflash work with a sport chrono-equipped car?

While getting a Spyder would make sense from a financial POV in terms of resale, I'm happy enough with my car such that the tradeoff on a new Spyder vs. my '08 987S wouldn't be worth the trade in terms of joy added per dollar. Nice to think about, though!

    Re: Sharkwerks RS350 kit

My experience with the single-mass flywheel is that it does not really affect usability in normal driving. You have to be a bit more sensitive when applying the clutch in 1st gear, but you get used to that and only really notice the difference when switching between cars. It does however add quite some mechanical noise from the engine and the gearbox. If find it too loud the modification is fully reversible and you can put back the original flywheel.

The ECU reflash changes the fuel maps and potentially the rev limit (depending on reflash make) but should not affect Sport Chrono throttle response, PSM, etc.
