Thats just business. If you want to sell this car that can happen to testdrivers. You should know that this can happen before you give the car to someone. On the other hand side - I dont want to know about the insurance fee the dealer paid for a test car Pagani! So the Insurancy knew this before, too - it might happen they have to pay the full car!
It's not clear if it was a dealer sale or a private sale.
However, it is mentioned that it was the driver testing the car who took up the insurance and he is submitting the claim. He should press for a total loss.

Sounds like the insurance company wants to score some points by going out of their way to fix this car "for the client" Hefty bill indeed, I think that would/should be a total loss.
indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine.. I happen to like both :)

True story: many many years ago, my Lancia Delta HF Integrale 16V, the first customer car in Germany (due to my racing involvement with Lancia), arrived at my local Fiat/Lancia dealer for pickup. My dealer called me, I went to the dealership and when I arrived, the chief mechanic was just driving out of the dealership in my brandnew car to take a short testdrive (mandatory before they pass on the car to the customer). He told me that he is going to be back in two minutes.
Well...10 minutes, 30 minutes, one hour passed. I got very nervous and so did the owner of the dealership who knew that he can't screw up things with me due to the racing relationship with Lancia.
Then, the chief mechanic came back, drove by me, right inside the dealership garage. I went after him, the car seemed OK and I thought he had a technical problem.
Well...when he exited the car, he had a white face, like as if he was in shock and told me very slowly "I'm sorry". Then, he asked me to get to the co-passengers side and take a look.
There it was...the shock of my life: the whole co-passenger side of the car was DESTROYED. From the front to the rear, the car's body was crashed and scratched, it looked horrible.
What had happened ? Well: he took a fast left turn on a slippery street and apparently forgot that the tires are completely new. The whole car slipped sideways into two parked cars.
Luckily, Lancia Germany had a second car available but instead of black, it was some sort of wine red metallic, not really my first choice for such a car. I had no choice, otherwise I would have waited months for a new car, it was a limited production car and most of them were already sold.
Whenever I pick up a new car, I'm a little bit horrified when I can't spot the car immediately.
