Any advice on duplicating a SIM card?

I have ordered the telephone module and would like to avoid removing the the sim card each time or changing my current phone plan and getting an additional phone number. I know on a previous thread someone mentioned getting there sim card cloned in China, this is not an option for me.

Do any of you have suggestions?

My carrier is T-mobile and I have an unactivated sim card they gave me when I last upgraded my phone.

Re: Any advice on duplicating a SIM card?

I do not think you can get a duplicate SIM in the US. You can however have a second SIM with a new directory number and install it in your car. You can use your current phone to activate the "simultaneous ringing" feature (if you subscribe to it). When the feature is active, any incoming call will ring your current cell phone as well as the car phone. You may pick from either phone and once you do, the other phone stops ringing. Your callers do not need to know anything new. I know AT&T offers that feature. Not sure about T-Mo in the US.

Re: Any advice on duplicating a SIM card?

If the phone carriers detects the use of two identical SIM cards within their systems they shut down that particular account because it could be perceived as a potential fraudulet account. I wish that weren't the case though because I would love to have two SIM cards for the same account too.

Re: Any advice on duplicating a SIM card?

I'm curious what happens when both SIM cards are used. Anyone with experience getting their accounts suspended?

Re: Any advice on duplicating a SIM card?

    both of them dont work
you have to turn off both phones and turn one of them on in order to get signal again
everytime i get in my car i turn of my sony ericcson
    its fine with me

Re: Any advice on duplicating a SIM card?

Thanks, ok, that means I can rule out checking email and talking at the same time.

I might as well then continue my existing setup, doing the call forwarding.

Re: Any advice on duplicating a SIM card?

Here in Europe, the operators offer a Dual-Sim car option for those that want two SIMs with the same number, such as in your mobile phone and in your car. You pay a little extra and you get two cards.

I have this arrangement myself (Vodaphone), I have the same number in the car's SIM and in my mobile phone so that when someone calls me if I'm in the car it rings in the car phone module and if I'm with my mobile it rings in my mobile.

Maybe they have this in US, I check with the carrier company

We don't have this option in the US. I don't know if they'll ever offer it.

Re: Any advice on duplicating a SIM card?

I am NOT talking about a second IDENTICAL SIM. I am talking about a second SIM with a new number, that is a new phone with a new number that you get from your service provider. You have to pay monthly fees for that phone. The simultaneous ringing feature will solve the problem but, again, you have to pay for the second phone.

Re: Any advice on duplicating a SIM card?

If you purchase a new sim card with its own number on a cheap monthly plan, then "call forward" from your cell phone to the car as you get in to drive. You can cease the call forward to return calls to your cell phone after you get out.

Re: Any advice on duplicating a SIM card?

You know... this could all be solved with bluetooth for most of us.

Re: Any advice on duplicating a SIM card?

Here in the UK, I use Vodafone. I have a monthly contract for my mobile handset. I also have a Vodafone Pay As Your Talk SIM card which I keep in my car. That SIM has its own telephone number. Whenever I get in the car, I just forward my mobile phone to the car. I pay a fixed charge for this because I have added Vodafone Family to my monthly contract. I can have up to 5 Vodafone mobile numbers connected to my account so that calls between them are free anytime within the UK.

I didn't want to clone my mobile SIM.

Also, the dual SIM that Carlos mentioned is restrictive in the UK. You can have this, for sure, BUT on a dual SIM arrangement on Vodafone, you cannot do all the multimedia things on the mobile handset if it is twinned with another SIM: e.g. MMS (picture messaging), WAP web-browsing etc etc. For me, that was a dealbreaker. It could be that these restrictions only apply to dual SIM packages on Vodafone in the UK. Maybe it's easier in Spain
