Don't think so. I believe there are 50 GT3's (MkI's) scheduled for delivery in 2008 in the UK. So production will continue for perhaps at least the first/second qtr. of 2008. However, it may be correct to assume that orders for the RotW cease at the end of 2007 as you have not been able to order a new GT3 in the Uk for about 3 months now.

I already placed the deposit for a model year 08 GT3 and do you think I have the right to have Porsche produce it in 2008?

When I enquired on the purchase of a GT3 end July at the Porsche dealership in Belgium I was told I should not hope on placing an order since production was being stopped! The salesguy was even worried that they would have troubles honouring some pending purchase orders.
I can't believe for what good reason Porsche AG could implement such a decision
. The car's great, sells well. Maybe they want to rebuild some iconic value within the 911 model range, like the 964 RS, 993 GT...

My first post here. Greetings to all.
It seems to be true. I've heard diverse theories about this:

* Re-styled 997 with only aestetic changes (not true MKII) will be introduced april-may 08; Re-styled GT3 will be available then.

* No more GT3 for current 997 line, neither MKI or MKII.
My bet is the first.

Just checked with my dealer. My GT3 is for November production, and late Nov delivery or early December 07. Dealer also suggested that while he had no special information that he expected mk2 gt3 in approx 2 years time (and that he would reserve one for me!!! --- Wishful thinking on his part!!!)

1997 -996 introduced
1999- 996GT3 mk1 +2yrs
2001 -996 facelift+4yrs
2003 -996GT3 mk 2 +6yrs
2004- 997 introduced
2006- 997 GT3+ 2yrs
2008- 997 facelift+ 4yrs
2010- 997 GT3 mk 2??? +6yrs???
Porsche were heavily criticized for over producing the 996 GT3 & promised to reduce build numbers/supply with the 997 GT3, it appears they have been good to their word! Let us hope this is the case & residuals will be back where they should be. If people want a 997GT3 before the new Mk 2 arrives they can still buy a used car!

I sincerely hope so, even though I have little plan to sell on my GT3 for a long while. However the considerable rate of progress from competitors snapping at Porsche's heels may force Porsche to act on a shortened product cycle.
I mean wonderful cars like the BMW M3 are going from "good" to even better with a V8. The regular M3 is unlikely to threaten a GT3 as a drivers car, but the V8 M3 CSL will be worth watching. And what about a tuned version of Audi's impressive new coupe.
I would (and am) still going for a GT3 myself, but these guys aren't allowing to occupy the wealthy enthusist space without a fight.

Agree with that timeline projection...but stopping now GT3 production seems to have no sense...
It seems to be more rational to continue with the actual GT3 production while the next one (facelift, MKII, ...) is available. But sttoping...why ?

As for the production end, December 2007 is what the dealer in Prague says. The dealership here is small in comparison to numbers sold elsewhere, but I think that should have no impact on the general credibility of the information they are given by the factory.
In terms of production capacity, lets assume that the GT2 and Panamera definitely present a big enough project for the factory and its outlet in Leipzig to transfer human resources away from the GT3's to the new cars.
On the other hand, since the GT3's are already being produced and require no more concentration than any other model, the decision to end now is purely being made to maintain exclusivity, so probably scrap the idea above.
The dealer here also says that PDK is being planned, but that it is not in the technical information for MY 2008 997. This could mean that PDK will come out next autumn for MY 2009.
Personally, I think that the Panamera, if introduced in Geneva next year, will have PDK as one of the headlines, but not for immediate production, and that PDK will appear in the Panamera and 997 in MY 2009. It's also possible that Panamera will be introduced even later on in Paris.
