    997 GT2 still a 'widow-maker'?

    Car Magazine just drove the new GT2 here in the UK under wet conditions and they seem to imply it was rather scary especially when the wet with Cup tyres.

    Begs the question whether the GT2, even with PSM, could still be termed a 'widow-maker'

    First, those morons were not even sure what tires are on GT2..."You could say that. Those bald-as-a-coot Pirellis are fine in the dry, sticky and secure, but the moment the heavens open (and they do that rather a lot in the UK, in case you'd forgotten), so does your mouth. Water-skiers might enjoy the sensation of carving across puddles, but we don't."

    Second, GT2 is a car that demands respect(430 Scuderia is in the same category IMHO). You need to live with it and learn how to drive it right...

    Third, most GT2 owners will use it as second or even third car.

    Agree 100%. The GT2 is not for the novice driver. Apparently the standard tires are more for dry weather driving than wet, which is not surprising. That is what the road tester should have said.

    I had my 997S up to 151 mph the other day (about 240 kph), and the front started wiggling a bit, due to my overly tight grip on the steering wheel. And I consider myself a bit more than a novice, but still, at such high speeds, I need a bit more practice. I can only imagine what it would be like in a GT2 with those twin turbos and the extra torque.

    Considering that the last generation of semi slicks are very good on the wet (better than some standart tires),I pretty sure it's all in their head.
    Sure they need some temperature but the days when those tires were dry specialists only are over.

    They somehow seem to forget that it has 680Nm at barely 2000rpm.

    the not so linear torque output in the turbo charged engine does required a bit more control on your right foot while existing the corner...

    British test drivers NEVER liked Porsche correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't they choose an Aston Martin over any Porsche ?

    Boy these semi-slick racing tires - they sure don't perform too well in the wet..
