    993 advices

    Hello all,

    I do not post very often (prefer to learn from you). However I may need some help this time.
    Since my favorite 911-styling is the 993, I was planning to purchase a 1996 convertible 993 C2. The car seems to be in mint condition but it has a high mileage(aprox130K) which takes me away from the idea of getting it, the price is very accurate,though.

    I dont know what to do. How do 993'3 tolerate high-mileages? What kind of things do I have to focus on?Any characteristic failure of 993 generation?

    If there is one car on this planet that can take high mileages, it has to be the 993. Provided it has been well looked after, I wouldn't lose sleep over it. A 993 can do multiples of 100k km. It's built to last and last and last...

    Rust? If there's rust anywhere I'd walk away. Stock? If the car is modded - missing any stock items like exhaust, steering wheel, seats etc. I would also walk away.
    Then again I'm particular about owning historically accurate examples.

    Thanks guys for your answers.
    Actually i'm not in Spain, I'm living in California for a while.
    The current owner told he uses the car as a daily and it high mileage is due to motorway miles he does to go to work..
    I checked the car (not tested yet, no time) and it seems to be 100% stock which attracts me more. I'll probably test the car next week and I'll give feedback to share impressions with you.

    I have another doubt to ask, what does PPI (kind of inspection) stand for and the meaning? The owner told me to do that if I wanted to be 100% secure...

    Agreed, but they often require new valve guides (basic valve job) by 80k miles (130k km). This generally costs about $5k.

    The valve guide issue is one of the only few issues with the 993 and happened, if I remember correctly, on a certain batch of cars due to weak alloying.
    Be sure to check for previous accidents which would influence the galvanising and therefore rust prevention.

    Unlike the 996 and 997 engines, the aircooled ones can be rebuilt but generally last pretty long. Good luck!
