    New BMW 8 Series (2018)

I cannot say I like it... Smiley

Big disappointment, especially in the design department.

The bottom half of the back is a little too japanese for me but otherwise I think it looks great.

Not that bad imo. However, once the exhaust tips become bigger than the taillights, I start getting concerned. This may be the one argument for EVs, getting rid of these overallbown fake exhaust tips.

My E63S has fake exhaust tips as well. You can only see they are fake if you drive directly behind my car and I am glad the tips are black but they are still fake and I hate it. Smiley

The front and front sideline are OK in my opinion (not sensational though) but the rear? Horrendous.

Keep in mind that this is supposed to be a game changer for BMW but I can't see that. I actually like the 6 series more.

Btw: The 8 series weights between 1830 and 1890 kg, so it is no lightweight car and certainly not a 911 competitor.

The M850i xDrive is rumored to be around 125k EUR (base price), maybe not a fortune for a 530 hp car but still more expensive than a new M5.

Re: New BMW 8 Series (2018)

The dealer told me the price in Switzerland for the 850 will be 185k chf.

Ridiculoulsy expensive, as it will loose value as quickly as all big bmws..

BMW never learns. It’s the brand with a lot of potential but it ends there unfortunately...

Same story again, very appetizing and exciting concept with the end result boring and neutered by the bean counters,

Re: New BMW 8 Series (2018)

I cannot find anything negative to say. It is a large car in the BMW style.

Those who like the contemporary BMW design will like this one too.

Although voluminous it looks more svelte than Bentley. It also has more interesting design cues than the M-B S Coupe.

It is high time Porsche brought a model in this class.

Given the prices of the panamera a porsche car in this segment would compete with Bentley. Way too pricey.

But I do have such great memories of the 928 GT growing up.

The Panamera has been elevated in the wrong segment IMO. The coupe could be a step below, however in the same way as Boxster/Cayman are below the 911 although they share most parts.

Re: New BMW 8 Series (2018)

don’t get the extra wide back ( although i guess it has some elements of the original 8 series). glass house is tiny so have to imagine it is both big, wide, heavy AND small inside....

the 6 series was about 150kg heavier ..

the front and side is not bad .. the kidneys are still way too big, but the rear is too fussy; much like a teenager with too many things hanging off his/her ears, nose etc

Re: New BMW 8 Series (2018)

Fully agree on fake exhausts . They look ridiculous . And on this car they have reached probably the return point . Can't be more ridiculous then these .

Dealer offered me a full option ex-demo convertible M850i 50k below list price.

At 100k, these make a lot of car for the money, compared with the 992 prices. Only drawback for me is the legroom in the rear for my 4 year old…

anyone here with real life experience?

Re: New BMW 8 Series (2018)

    I have a new 840d. Very good lease ...

I drove 1.500km the last two weeks, 1.300km on the Autobahn, most restricted. Fast enough. If you come from behind many people change to the right lane. Comfortable, perfect mile-eater. In the city the the car feels smaller than it is because of the active rear steering. Didn't had time to use the car on normal streets outside the city

Backseats? Nearly impossible to use. Not only the legroom, even more the headroom is a problem. A 4 year old child should be a promblem. Big trunk, I used it to transport one of my bicycles.

Fake exhaust and rear: doesn't look good, shadow line and a dark color is a must in my opinion

Do not call it a sports car, it's a good GT

Re: New BMW 8 Series (2018)

I have a 540d as a DD since march and the engine is just made for this car (and 8series, l assume?...) Smiley

Re: New BMW 8 Series (2018)

Dealer gave me a M850i convertible as a loaner. The styling (rear) has yet to grow on me but my god that engine is a peach...super smooth in traffic but put your foot down and it's like surfing a howling wave of pure torque.

I became a fan but taxes are a bit steep over here for these big engines, hence the big discounts to move them. Still debating. Totally different proposals but this barge offers way more car for the (after discount) money than a 992S....without thinking about residuals, that is.

Why do you think did I lease two AMG cars? Super cheap leases, no worries with the remaining value of the cars. Smiley

I'd go for these cars as often as possible because one day, they will disappear and we all end up driving Teslas. Smiley Smiley

I just can't help but think 'mehh' when I see them.. Maybe the M8 would change that. I'd still opt for a 992, much prettier, better finished and a more interesting drive. Agree that engine makes up for a lot.

Re: New BMW 8 Series (2018)

The 992 is clearly the more, how to put it, "athletic" choice but the engine and comfort of the 8 series make up for it, especially if you compare the lease offers and/or buying options (discounts). If both cars cost the same (MSRP) but for one, you pay only half the lease rate and/or you can get it up to 20% cheaper...I don't know. Smiley

Re: New BMW 8 Series (2018)

8 series aside, what's wrong with BMW's new design language? It's worse than the Bangle era, and that's saying a lot. The front grills are just comical.

Re: New BMW 8 Series (2018)

I agree that it looses in every way (bar the engine and the comfort) to the 992 at MSRP,  but with these discounts that becomes a total different story: the car above is offered at me for 102k €, it has 4wd (rear biased), convertible, rear steering and every other option + that  V8.

Same money gets you a full option Boxter GTS. Just saying.

992 is totally different car, and I probably end up with one in my garage but I can see why people start trying looking at other marques with Porsche’s latest price policy. It’s getting a bit hard to justify...
