I opted for the Basalt Black Metallic on the Carrera S I ordered at the end of October. Yesterday was the tentative build date and hopefully I'll take delivery in several weeks. I liked the Basalt Black as I wanted something a bit different than the normal (and very classy looking) black and also wanted a color that won't show the road tar as quickly (not that I'll neglect removing the road tar). I've had too many silver cars that look like hell after only one or two days of driving on Virginia's hot and sticky asphalt roads during the summer time.

I've gotta say that I like basalt better than standard black. It's more rich and complex. It's one of the only metallic Porsche colors that I think is really well done.
I doubt it's much easier to maintain though. Any dark color - midnight blue, atlas grey, black, etc. - is harder to maintain than light or silver.

Got the first Spyder conversion 3 years ago (apart from the prototype/demonstrator) Must say they do a fantastic job - Andy & co at Peterborough are great.

I am mentally wishing the weeks away,.....I am in fact waiting for a 1st march delivery on an 06 plate(prefer to think of it as 7 weeks away not 8!)....could have the car in mid Feb but I figure the later plate is worth 2 more weeks of pain.
I wonder if buyers in other countries have this prestige attached to plate dates!!

Plate date prestige is a real pain, especially as they now change every 6 months . I'll be putting my personalised one on the 997 soon, which is probably even worse!!
Ireland have an even easier system to spot the year, but at least it lasts a year. I'm not sure about the rest of Europe or the USA? Although I believe that in some States you can choose your own to some extent.

In the States the Plates or Registration do not stay with the car. New plates are issued every time a car is bought or sold. So you can't tell what year the car is by its registration plates. Also if you relocate your home from one state to another you have to change you plates as well.
