Test Drove 997 C2S Today...Suspension Issues ??
Hi all, first post and looking to become a new Porsche owner. I was hoping I could get your expertise concerning a 997 I test drove today.
I test drove an 05 997 C2S, black on black today at the local MB dealership that came in on a trade 2 weeks ago. The car is an early 05, that has the 762 launch code, with about 19K on the odo, It's loaded with PCCB, Adaptive Sport Seats, Full leather, Sport Chrono Plus-Nav, Self Dimming Mirrors, 19" Zone Z1 Wheels, PS2's and Bilstein PSS9 coilvers - installed in 07. The stock suspension is not included.
I learned the coilovers were installed by a small, local race shop. The person I spoke at the shop with said it was the first set of coilovers he installed on a 997...the alignment was done elsewhere.
I noticed during the test drive that the steering wheel shimmied moderately at speeds greater than 55. Then, holding the wheel firmly and accelerating from 65 the car would pull noticably to the left, then straighten out the moment I let off the throttle. The car also felt skittery in the curves and straightline - generally not a very stable and planted feeling at speed at all.
After the test drive I stopped by the local Porsche dealer to have a couple of the mechanics who I befriended take a look at it and get it up on the lift. We discovered that the distance from the top of the tire to the top of the RF wheel well was "two fingers" and on the LF it was only "one finger". The LR was also lower than the RR, though not as much.
So, is this just a simple 4 corner height adjustment and alignment issue or could there be other underlying issues involved causing the problems?? I'm guessing it's simple, but I'm hesitant to buy as is. BTW, the sales price I negotiated was contingent on passing a PPI and test drive and I have it in writing. I suggested to the MB dealer I'd like to have them have the ride height adjusted properly and then aligned, then drive again to see if the issues have been resolved.
I appreciate any comments or suggestions. Cheers
