got a go in Audi RS4

My god that car blew me away.

First the seats. So damn good. It was those racing seats that envelops your body. They were comfortable at the same time.

At first, I thought the car was too quiet. Couldn't hear the engine. But then, when you press on, the car goes like a bat with a "blowing wind" kind of sound. And "wouf" you go. I should say "wouf" you're gone.

I was so impressed by it. The boxster I drove last week was fast but porsches give you less security. You don't feel as confident behind the wheel of porsche as you feel with the audi.

It handles really well, even though the ride is harsh for an estate.

Still I liked it better than the 987 boxster (with the 2.7l)

What can I say: Iwant one.

When I got in the car, I couldn't start it. It took me 5 minutes to figure out that there was a start buton near the hand break.

Obviously, with my lack of experience and driving abilities, I didn't push the car too much. I can't judge the car much more. I've never driven a 997s or an M3, so I can't compare it with those too.

Today, I also got the chance to drive a 964 carrera 4. hat car is nuts. My legs still hurt from that drive. I need to spend some serious time in the gym.

Hope your summer job is going well - by the sound of it, you're having a great time!

I wonder whether the "confidence" you were referring to is due to the 4 wheel drive?

Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience - look forward to hearing your reaction from your first 997 experience!

    Cheers

I guess the 4 wheel drive helps a lot, but there's more.

A porsche starts to feel light from the front at high speeds (or under heavy acceleration), while the RS4 feels really planted. It sticks to the road a lot more. On one hand, the audi feels a bit less agile, but on the other hand it feels much safer. Brakes works like on any other audi, the don't have that racing configuration you find on porsches even on a boxster.

It's the all package, bigger car, 4wd, heavier front axel that makes it very friendly. I liked that a lot. That's a 420bhp car that is so easy to use everyday, Maybe some would complain that it's not as special as a porsche, but I guess that's the all point of it. I'm sure it's a lot easier to live with an RS4 than any porsche 911.

It's a job I'm doing that allows me to drive audis, VWs and porsches. I don't have 80K. I can't even buy a boxster.

    In a few years maybe.

Try a C4S, you will have ' the planted feeling, security', but also the Porsche sports car feel.

Like a lot of us here, if you work hard at it, you will be driving the stuff that many people here own in no time.

Re: got a go in Audi RS4

Strange, I have tried the old S4 and RS4 and used to own a souped-up A4 Quattro and while they all felt "planted" and tend to flatter your ego, they didnt make me feel more safe than the Boxsters Ive tried, or the one I drive.
I guess thats a matter of taste. I like the Audis on many levels, but in terms of driver involvement, they still have quite a bit to go before reaching Porsche standards.

I agree. The feeling of being "planted" might be due to the lack of information you get from the car's controls, unlike the Porsche's talkative hardware.

Re: got a go in Audi RS4

    I agree with ferdie.
With the 996TT i've discovered how many informations can come from the road through the steering wheel.
Impressive. You know how much you can push...and when not to do it. The boxster 2.7l is a car that left me with a bad impression.
Super nice chassis but too low power to make you feel as sitting in a fast car.
3.2 is far better but still underpowered.

Re: got a go in Audi RS4

My RS4 felt good until the clutch gave in...twice!

it's true that you feel less involved with the RS4. But IMO, it feels safer.

Again, I'm not used to cars with such power, so I guess that explain why I love safety for now. I need to learn how to drive such cars first. The RS4 feels easier to drive for an unexperienced (sports car) driver.

Might be that. Don't know to be honest.

My experience with modern porsche is limited to the 987 2.7l for now.

I'll probably drive 911 (996, 997) in the coming days. Ill be able to tell you guys more about it.
