    Changing out GT3 wheels for normal C4S wheels on a C4S?

    I'm about to take delivery on an '04 C4S, and one of the options on this car are the GT3 wheels. I have asked the dealer to replace the GT3 wheels with the normal C4S wheels (turbo look), and I have received a price credit for that. I just like the way the normal C4S wheels look more.

    Anyway, my question is this: is this a simple swap, or is there any thing tricky to changing out the GT3 wheels for the C4S wheels? I know both types of wheels are 18" (225 in the front, 295 in the back), but other than that, are there any differences between the wheels that make changing them more than just a straight-up swap job?

    I figure the dealer would know, but I'm a little paranoid about dealer screw ups.

    Well, the GT3 wheels use spacers on a widebody I think, but no, once you take the wheels and the spacers off it's a pretty straightforward operation. I have a question though. Why swap out the lighter GT3 wheels for the heavy solid-spoke "Turbo" look wheels?

    I agree, may as well get actual Turbo hollow spokes if you like that look...

    GT3-style wheels fitted to front of C4S are 8J x 18 ET50mm (as opposed to "real" GT3's 8.5J x 18 ET40mm) and are a straight swop for standard wheel.

    Actual GT3 wheel dimension is fitted to rear of C4S (11J x 18 ET63mm), but 17mm spacers are needed for this application. This may mean that different length wheel bolts are needed to compensate for spacer thickness when reinstalling standard wheel, unless spacer is bolted to hub flange with its own bolts. (I cannot recall offhand).

    This shouldn't leave too much scope for your dealer to screw up, so I'm afraid you'll have to find something else to get paranoid about.

    The GT3 wheel option M416) on the C4S and Turbo are as follows:

    8" x 18" - ET50 - 996.362.136.02
    11" x 18" - ET45 - 996.362.142.02

    Also, no spacers are required or used. In addition, the GT3 wheels are lighter than the solid spoke C4S wheels. I would definitely leave them on, if I were you.

    My information as shown above is based on Tequipment wheels supplied by Porsche for after-market installation as complete wheel and summer tire sets on C4S and Turbo models. Rear wheels with
    a) ET45
    and
    b) ET63 + 17mm spacer
    would correspond to each other (2mm total difference in track).

    Looks like they've rationalised stocking for these wheel sets by doing things this way, because ET 63 wheel without spacer fits standard narrow body 996!

    Now I really understand Barrett's paranoia about potential for dealers screwing up!

    Why not keep your GT3 wheels upon delivery and sell them, rather than take a credit? The GT3 wheel option is $950, but you should be able to sell them for a couple thousand at least. One dealer told me they were over $1000 per wheel.

    This is what I plan to do once I take delivery of my 05' C4S. I am getting aftermarket wheels...only 19lbs each.

    I don't have the wheels, or the car yet

    If all goes well, my car should be delivered near mid Aug-early Sept. The completion date is scheduled for 7-18-04 I believe.

    The wheels I ordered about 6 weeks ago. They are a special order from Japan, so I should get them around the same time as I get the car...so pics will come then
