Drove the new Nissan GTR today

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ts32qdkvTM0

This thing is MINDBLOWING fast! The 997 turbo I drove last year didn't feel nearly as fast. This car does have a tune and aftermarket exhaust though. It's also SO easy to drive, visibility is excellent. Very comfortable and could make for an easy daily.

Re: Drove the new Nissan GTR today

The stock Turbo and GTR are very close in acceleration until about 200 km/h when the Turbo starts to pull slowly away. Where the GTR really beats the competition is in its cornering speeds. These are much faster than almost any other car and  allow the GTR to keep up with exotics with far superior power to weight ratios on the track.

It has to do with its transmission and 4WD system.

Very soon when the Turbo FL with PDK comes out, we might have a new boss.

I hope so. I am sure Porsche will pull out the stops with the FL Turbo. It has to beat the GTR on the track to restore order to the universe.

Re: Drove the new Nissan GTR today

The GTR really should not be compared with the GT2. The über 911 is a much more durable and desirable track car, and at nearly three times the cost it is in a different class. But their lap times are very close.

I wonder if Porsche will take the FL Turbo to this level and risk making the GT2 look overpriced?

How come GTR is faster when GT2 has more fastest laps than it(10:7) ?

Re: Drove the new Nissan GTR today

we tried many times a match between my scuderia and a stock GTR on the highway, the scuderia is much much faster than a stock GTR on the highway. the same guy changed the exhaust and air air filter, we tried again, and one more time the scud was faster. so he bought this machine that will remap the ecu (i forgot the name), according to the manufacturer the kit now has +85HP. when we tried with the full mod, i wasnt able to gain a millimeter on him until 220kph where i started pulling.

i also raced a modified M6 by kellener with 580HP, and as you can see in the following link, the scud was much faster until 270 where the M5 closed the gap very fast and if we continued he would have passed me easy.

ok the link is not working... does anyone knows how to share a video i have in my facebook account?

    It's a wonderful car.

Just don't use the factory installed self destruct / warranty void, but we made it a useable feature button: Smiley

Re: Drove the new Nissan GTR today

This table from "fastest lap" demonstrates how little pure numbers (out of context) can tell...

Just try to exclude those results which have been "obtained" on Japanese tracks (these numbers are totally out of line - which is not much of a surprise if one watches some of the corresponding "test" videos) and those results where the cars were obviously driven under different test conditions (wet track, as indicated in the table etc.) and you already get a much clearer picture.

If one then adds some "gut feeling" and focuses on the more reliable test results (also ignoring the Nissan marketing NBR claims which still included in the above table) the picture will be as follows (I am accepting bets on this, BTW Smiley):

    HHR: ca. 1.11,5 (GTR) vs. 1.09,7 (GT2) > ca. 2s difference

    NBR: ca. 7.43 (GTR) vs. 1.33 (GT2) > ca. 10s difference

    0-300: ca. 55s (GTR) vs. 35s (GT2)

These numbers show that Porsche can nicely position the 997TT FL with a performance between GT2 and GTR... There is more than enough room...

Re: Drove the new Nissan GTR today

BTW, here is the table (i) without the distorting Japanes "tests", (ii) excluding those tests where the track was "damp" in case of the GT2 test, and (iii) excluding the factory claimed NBR time:

In this table it becomes immediately obvious that the only tracks on which the GTR was quicker than the GT2 (unusually significant - by 1-3s per lap!) belong to the "Willow" category (Buttonwillow, Willow Springs, Streets of Willow)... I have seen the test video for one of these Willow tests. In this video the track conditions seem to change significantly due to the sandy environment and the wind that carried sand on the track...

Also, the DR report (which I consider VERY significant as DR compared a regular GTRwith the GT2 head-to-head on the NBR) resulted in a time difference of approx. 10s (if one takes into account the comments of CH). Then we have the Sportauto lap of 7.50 and a Sportauto test of a modified GTR on HHR (which is included in the above table).

we saw several dyno-tests that showed gt-r had not only 480hp factory claim but 510-520hp...
