RIVIERA BEACH, FL - March 23, 2006: Mosler Automotive announced Thursday that its Mosler MT 900S will be the first production car to be factory-equipped with high-performance carbon fiber wheels. The specialty, ultra-lightweight rims will be designed exclusively for the Mosler and manufactured by Dymag, a leading wheel manufacturer that has been producing carbon fiber wheels for motorcycles for more than four years.
The revolutionary 18 and 20-inch nine-spoke Dymag wheels sport a magnesium center hub with carbon fiber rims and have been specially designed to complement the silhouette of the MT 900S. The Mosler's new carbon fiber front rims weigh 14 pounds, versus the 24 pounds for its current forged aluminum OZ wheels and the new Dymag carbon fiber rear rims weigh a mere 17.5 pounds each compared to 28.5 pounds each for the OZ aluminum versions. This translates into a total reduction in rotating unsprung weight (RUM) 42 pounds.
"The Dymag carbon/magnesium wheels have nearly half as much rotational inertia as forged aluminum wheels," says company founder Warren Mosler. "And, of course, pursuant to our imperative for total performance, the large savings in unsprung weight improves handling and ride qualities as well as our already extreme acceleration, braking and cornering."
