    Re: AZ 488 supertest

Ok... Just read the article/test. HvS the driver. Superlatives as much as possible. In class of its own in 99% of important merits.

Also, results confirmed claim from CG from SA who wrote that 488 GTB is capable of amazing track times after some time behind the steering wheel (he achived 1:08,3min Hockenheim lap time in single hot lap).

Car is on standard Michelin Super Sport K1 tires marginally slower.

Also, test car is with full CF options and Bucket seats.

Still, it is the best sportscar on the market. Little hint... SA Supertest will have almost the same track times.

    Re: AZ 488 supertest

Good numbers, though nothing that amazing. McLaren is putting up these numbers on their platform that's about the go out of production...

    Re: AZ 488 supertest

McLaren is the underdog, they have to beat the benchmark. That's how Porsche was in the past... But Porsche lost touch in that segment with not enough hp and prices too high...

    You are indeed Mclaren addict.

675LT is producing same Hockenheim lap time on Trofeos. It is marginally slower on same Trofeos on the Ring. How much is 675LT costing? Around 130K € more then 488 GTB in Germany.

Just as a remark I really like 540C/570S a lot.

    Re: AZ 488 supertest

With so few McLaren dealers in the US and the awful, low mileage rate of repair that many owners have complained about, the McLaren for me is not worthy of consideration. And visually its starting to look old and the rear end is just a design mess. They need a cleaner style, more dealers and a better warranty. Until then, no way Jose.

    Re: AZ 488 supertest

Where is the ring time for the 675? I've never seen one and it isn't listed on fastest laps.

In 2011, on Corsas, a pre-updated 12C with only 600hp and no other software improvements did 7:28 on the Ring with HvS. The P11 platform has existed since 2011. Throw some 2016 Cup 2 on it and it will do even better.

Is the 675 LT expensive? Yes. Could I have easily got one at MSRP? Yup. Could you get a 650S for $100K less than a 488? yup.

In the US, if I want a 488 coupe right now, the cheapest I could buy a used one is $40K over sticker at $330K. If I want a new one, I have to wait years.

    Re: AZ 488 supertest

This is the situation only and to repeat only in USA.

In most EU countries waiting time for 488 GTB is from 4 to 8 months. Totally acceptable IMO.

675LT was tested on the Ring and you will very soon see result in one German magazine. Time is low 7.2Xmin.

Again, prices are very, very different in Germany for example then in USA.

    Re: AZ 488 supertest

That seems kinda hard to believe especially coming from this car.  Was it the same mag as this one (Auto Zeitgeist)?

There had to be something wrong with that car.  Otherwise, the mac boys will have a field day with this one when it comes out.   Should be nice to see

    Re: AZ 488 supertest

No, Sport Auto had a different example.  Auto Zeitung had a new one.

Yeah, 488 GTB is piece of crap. Bad sound, not emotional enough. One few supercars on the market are faster either on the autobahn or on the track. That's really bad indeed.

    Yes, I am sarcastic here.

Einer der besten sportwagen aller zeiten...

I did not claim that. AZ and HvS on the other hand...

    Re: AZ 488 supertest

Every new V8 Ferrari and GT3 Porsche is one of the best sports cars of all time...

When you say sport auto had a different one and auto zeitung had a new one, are you referring to the 675 or the 488? My memory is a bit fuzzy on the 675lt supertest.  Didn't it do poorly compared to its official specs?

    Re: AZ 488 supertest

sorry but those tests tell you NOTHING in terms of what it feels to live with the car. in these days a BMW M2 is too fast (no, correction, much too fast) for the roads (except the german autobahn) so a different metric must be invoked. most importantly, how does the car make you feel? fast...yes, many cars are very fast today but this is not the issue. as far as the 488GTB is concerned, how did it make me feel? hmmmm...rather indifferent inspite of it being so fast and inspite of superset results. do i want to own one? no, i don't, no matter how fast it circles the ring.

    Different example of 488.

675LT will be Supertested by SA. Soon. As I already wrote little bird told me that Ring time is nothing special.Despite Trofeos and 675ps. Do not get me wrong, 675LT is still very, very fast car.

Sensory overload... That is the term you are looking for I presume?

Agressive engine and exhaust note, litte bit of exaggerated noise from gearbox and suspension. That is in my not humble at all opinion what creates a sensation called "FEEL". If the car balence is little bit tricky at or near the limit "FEEL" sensation is even more extended.

Good post. After driving Ferrari's for a few years I began to feel self conscious driving the car i.e. what was I trying to prove? This is not a knock against Ferrari but what the car is. It screams look at me I am very successful. Maybe as a result of aging, I am beginning to place more importance on other things in life.Smiley

As far as McLaren is concerned I believe Jim in the post above stated the best case as to why I don't want one. I would add that the front of the car has an appearance of a smiling clown/joker. About a week ago there was McLaren (no sure which model) next to a 2016 Corvette and a middle aged man and woman looking at the cars. I heard the woman make the comment that the front end looked like it had a big smile on its face and that she preferred the look of the Corvette (which BTW looks like a 488).

    Re: AZ 488 supertest

Nick, a Ferrari F12 looks like a Corvette to most Americans and the GTC4 Lusso attracts no gawkers either. Just get either with no scuderia shields and you would be fine. indecision Besides it has 12 cylinders and that NA sound.

The 488 has to be the best mid engine sports car made today, but drive out of any wealthy bubble enclave and I bet it will draw a lot of attention and not all of it good. A friend of mine has a F430 and it draws every idiot in a old Toyota MR2 or beater Honda coupe wanting to ''race'' it on the freeway.

Not really. The lap times of the McLaren in the SportAuto tests were not convincing.

So when can we expect that test to come out?

    Re: AZ 488 supertest

Did anyone also notice that g force it hit.  I'm certain it was peak, but its still pretty high.  Kudos to Fezza.

It is impressive to see how much Ferrari improved the performance of their cars over the last 20 years. In former times the cars were nice and special and expensive but inferior to Porsche, today they are even faster and cheaper...

I am very impressed by the above performance numbers (and hope that customer cars deliver the same performance) Smiley

    Re: AZ 488 supertest

in fact Ferrari has come a long way. many automakers have come a long way.....and that is exactly the reason why Porsche needs to get out of being so conservative with its evolutionary incremental improvement policy.

Ferrari is and has a "Mythos" to most - but in reality the cars not as good as others - which of course is subjective - but a funny side-story was when the "window-open" button came off when I testdrove the 488......- which doesn't mean anything of course indecision

I once test drove a California years ago and whilst in the process of adjusting the seat, the fore adjustment button feel off. I carefully handed it over to the the sales guy with a brief smile on my face. To be sincere, nothing like German build quality Smiley
