Few would ever complain that the standard Porsche Cayenne Turbo is lacking in grunt with 450bhp, but it seems that some Porsche customers think so. For them Porsche has raised the power from its 4.5-litre twin turbocharged V8 engine to 521bhp - an increase of 71bhp.
In doing so they've created the new flagship Cayenne Turbo S an SUV that's able to sprint to 62mph in a staggering 5.2 seconds - exactly the same time as a 911 Carrera. The top speed is 167mph.

To achieve that increase in power Porsche's engineers have added a pair of intercoolers to the turbochargers. The improved efficiency of this new set up also allowing a rise in boost pressure to ensure the Cayenne Turbo S's output is only second to the 612bhp Carrera GT in the current Porsche range. Making sure all that bulk stops effectively is a modified braking system with larger discs and pads, their cooling aided by 20-inch SportTechno alloy wheels. Fuel economy is claimed to be the same as the standard Cayenne Turbo model 'in the same speed range'. However, the official combined figure of 15.7mpg of the Cayenne Turbo in our experience has always proved rather optimistic, so expect the more powerful Turbo S to be an even thirstier beast.
But, if you can stomach the Pounds81,565 list price for this new hyper-Cayenne you can surely afford the regular trips to the fuel pumps. Pop Feb 25 in your diary, the Turbo S's official on-sale date, if you're after one of the fastest and most accomplished on-road-off-roaders on the planet.
