996 was never particularly liked by most porsche enthusiasts. Flattened front end, shared parts w/ the cheaper boxster, etc. Hence, the design of the 997 looks more like a 993 than a 996. I think it will stand the test of time better than the 996. Could still use a few more curves in my opinion.

Keep in mind that only the true Porsche fanatics will ever know the difference between one and another. When in Germany I met a German man who told me that he always buys Guards Red 911s,--has been doing this for several decades. His neighbors only see him in a red Porsche. That's all they know. They have no clue when he's 'upgrading.' (He does this so they won't talk,--"Herr Schmidt is doing very well this year mit the new Porsche...")
I happen to think that certain 911 shapes are ageless.

yes it is...
you guys are lucky to have some dutchies over here... the dutch porsche site is hopelessly old-fashioned, and still has those ancient goodies!

I'm sure that those who really love Porsche could find any model interesting
The 996 series is getting cheaper and cheaper in the second hand market. It's make possible to achieve to a 911. Then that kind of person is coimng into Porsche world and begin to understand the real 911 philosophy.
993's price is increasing in the market. It's the last air-cooled and most Porsche fans are thinking about it as a purist.
997 will be similar to the 996. Most beauty , but the production is very extended.
