I'd love to see a more powerful Cayman/Boxster version, but with an engine sounding like a sewing machine? Smiley

It will be good to see a Turbo engine in the Cayman because this will make the NA GT3 engine even more exclusive and sought after. :)

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Cayman (2012)

WOW. It is always difficult to judge a car by pictures and movies alone.
For the past couple of generations, each new porsche had some angles that made it look really awkward, with badly executed lines that got exaggerated by the effect that a photocamera always seems to have.

This car is the very first Porsche in a couple of years that I can't finde any of those awkward angles on... Kudos to Porsche!

ooops - doesn't it look a bit squashed from that angle?  So with this too squashed, and the 991 too elongaged, I'm just going to have to keep my 997...forever..!

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Cayman (2012)

I have a problem with the value of the new Cayman - ok maybe not entirely fair to compare new v used, but I've just specced up a Cayman S to my ideal, far from over the top, and ended up at £62k. I then looked on the Porsche UK used cars and found a less than a year old, base 991 - yes a 991 - for  £2.5k less. Smiley Even the depreciation after purchase of the 991 would be vastly better.

I would rather like to see another Cayman R with 350 horses and 100 kg less weight (no A/C, sport shells, no noise dampening material, etc. etc. etc.). Deleting the comfort features makes sure that this car doesn't compete directly with the 991 models. I'm also pretty sure that some people here in the forum would love such a version.

    Christian,

Cayman Turbo is coming 100% for sure. With 365ps/490Nm it will be very interesting product. Also, I heard that Cayman Turbo will be PDK only.

    H4???

And when?? With the FL or early?

Edit: Ok, I just see it

As I posted earlier, for more money than this by the time a few option boxes have been ticked? Smiley  (Porsche Centre Reading £59,900). But with the current market conditions, unless you've got money to burn or it's being bought by a company or perhaps as a very long term keeper buying ANY new top-end car is crazy at the moment.

@dreamcar - your price comparison is now moot is it not?  (as I think you admitted that SWMBO now favours the 911 for everyday use.... )  indecision  That, by the way, is exactly how we ended up with our 997, except we never owned the 987 at all.

Boxster S 981 is an amazing car to drive - as I'm sure is the 981 Cayman. It's a massive leap forward over 987. I would need a longer drive than I've had in the 991 to be convinced that as a sports car it is such an improvement over the 997/2 though. Smiley  It took me a long time to adjust to the rear engined ways after owning two Boxsters and a Cayman and it is definitely not as kart like as the mid engined cars, you eventually "get" the rear engined attributes - but value like this can't be ignored. I accept that there are those out there with mid engined Porsches that would never go rear engined - and vice-versa. Buy a new 981S now here in the UK (whatever variant) with a half decent spec and the second you drive it off the forecourt - bye bye £15k. Smiley Buy a new 991S - bye bye £25k Smiley

Don't worry...let the Cayman be on the market for a year or so and you are going to see the same attractive used car prices as with the 991.

It is amazing how prices dropped: I found a Carrera 4 GTS with 800 km(!) for 85k EUR (for a second I was thinking of exchanging my daily C63 AMG driver with it). I found a 991 Carrera with 6000 km for 89k EUR. I found a 991 Carrera S (new price 132k) with 5000 km for 99k EUR.

Let another year pass, let the GT3 and the Turbo show up next year and you are going to get some very good deals for the 991 Carrera and Carrera S.

Indeed a lightly used 991 is the best value Porsche right now given they have lost so much monetary value within a year.

That said, the GT3 and Turbo will likely be so good  that one will not want to consider any other option... :)

does anyone know if (when) the sport suspension will be available for the Cayman ? It's not in the configurator (yet)

this cayman is really well designed. I guess we have a small wiev of what the turbo will look like. Anyway i like from the outside, no have to see the inside and the engine.

Hope it's not to much Audi or VW.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Cayman (2012)

The idea of a fake strut viewed through the rear window is totally ridiculous.  Maurer says it was because a Ferrari would have an engine on display but as the Cayman's is so low down, it wasn't possible hence the fake strut.  This is embarrassing: what happened to form following function?

Why didn't they go the whole (awful) way and put a complete fake engine on the back shelf ?

I'm glad you brought this up; I thought Mauer's statement was borderline ridiculous. Why would Porsche have to emulate Ferrari or anyone for that matter? I personally like the aluminum strip and the turret-like service openings, but to have them be born out of an idea that they needed something there for the sake of visual impact and because "X Manufacturer has something to look at back there" just seems petty and trying too hard. Kind of a shame to hear a remark like that.
