    Boxster Base vs S sound

    I just saw an interesting post over PPBB (http://www.ppbb.com/scgi-bin/boards/986/main.pl?read=960094) where someone that tested both the base and S felt that the base sounded better. A second person that had only drove the base and ordered the S also had the same "feeling" when he picked us his S.

    Anyone had any similar experience?

    I've downloaded the Boxster sounds from Porsche web site but they have the same mp3 file for both the base and the S. It does sound very good but I don't know which model does the file refers to.

    hmmm... I felt the opposite. I also tried the base with the roof down, so you would think it would sound louder/better than the S, which I only tried with the roof up.

    The sound changes after the breakin 1500 miles.

    I'd say they were similar when I tested them both.

    IMO waht does it matter you either buy the 2.7 or 3.2 for other reasons than soun?

    My S sounds quieter with the roof down due to wind noise, unless you are going through a built up area!!!

    Mine definitely passes the bridge / tunnel test for sound quality with the roof down. Even at "running in" revs.

    I have a base 987 and was loaned a 987 S when mine went in for some warranty work- the S sounds better in my opinion- but there is not a huge difference.

    Might be a subjective thing, but I remember the older 2.5L Boxsters, and perhaps still the 2.7L engines having a very distnct roar at around 5k rpm. The larger the engines, then more and more they started to sound like the 911 which is more of a turbine sound. The 3.2L was sort of a balance between the two.
