IMHO the next GT4 will only be more desirable if it is more raw and cost less. Neither are likely to happen.

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

It will not cost less, this is for sure. kiss Also, I think it may not get a n/a engine anymore. Everything else will be amazing...if I can believe the rumors. It will also be very very fast. Based on 718, not next generation of course.

It seems that the lukewarm(?) success of the 718 models kind of pushed Porsche to do another GT4...and Spyder.

Again...rumors...take them with a grain of salt.

Any word on a wing-delete option? Is that rumoured "Touring Package" going to happen?

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

I am very curious how Porsche will work this one out.

Very, very fast does not make it more desirable IMHO. The 718 is faster than the 981, but also totally undesirable. Porsche needs to work with emotions if the next GT4 is going to be a hit. This does, more or less, exclude a turbo-charged engine, unless Porsche can work magic to make the 4-cylinder blower build character. PDK is not going to make it more desirable either. More GT4 cars than Porsche could ever imagine were sold. While PDK is not emotionless, it is not the same involvement as manual. That Porsche seem to release a manual in the next GT3 should be enough proof for the sceptics

So, how can they improve on the current car? The single most important item is the engine. Hence, a de-tuned 991.2 GT3 engine would cut it. Unfortunately it would have to come with the price tag too. The rest is already as good as it gets with all the GT3 bits and bobs. I can't think of many chassis improvements. Maybe rear-wheel steering, but I am not sure if this makes a big difference in a mid-engined car?

    Anyway, interesting times ahead.

more expensive with newer models is the rule.

but I miss the good old days when manual transmission is at least a few thousands cheaper than the automatics.

I don't think anyone has revealed the savings or premium for the manual gearbox.  I would guess the same price as PDK-S, but anything is possible...

If Porsche is smart, they will assign the PDK as standard for the GT3, and charge 8k for the manual option haha. Then they can truly judge the market for a manual GT car

Excluding the R, my bet is on the 991.1 RS or 991.2 GT3.

In any case, I don't see the 991.1 GT3 being the most desirable. Yes, it was built in small numbers, but for a serious reason: an engine with a design flaw. It might be fixed, but among the enthusiasts these hick-ups take a long time to forget. If ever. While I adore the 991.1 GT3 I would not buy one without warranty.

Since it sounds like the 991.2 GT3 will be a subtle evolution of the 991.1 GT3 which addresses the engine concern I would think this is the most desirable 991 to have. IMHO Smiley

Clearly you have forgotten the 997.2 Sport Classic Smiley I don't blame you. Everyone else did too Smiley

Jokes aside, as far as I can remember a new GT-model has always been more desirable than an old one. Of course there were special versions like the 997.2 GT3 RS 4.0l which is high up on my list, but for the "standard" GT3 the new model is always the one people want.

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

the whole discussion is pointless in my book - the only interesting Topic is how Long Porsche will stay on NA engines. My prediction is that the current RS is the last - the GT4 is the last - the upcomming GT3 will be the last 4.0 ..... - maybe another Special non GT product - but in General it's safe to say that Porsche will go away from NA engines.rather quick...

Those glorious NA flat-sixes seem to have reached their performance limits and more power is needed if the GT models are going to stay competitive. I cannot see a 4.0l 500hp NA engine cut it for the next generation GT3.

More engine displacement is probably not realistic nor going to help much. More engine cylinders is probably not going to fit nor does it go well with the 911 heritage. Hence forced induction or clever hybrid for more power.

A wing delete package would make sense, they give GT3 lovers a manual transmission again, so they shouldn't be bothered by the wing delete option (which according to rumors was supposed to cost money, this won't be a free option if it comes).

    Agreed. Smiley

Porsche may be at the crossroads here with the GT models and the 911 Turbo models.

Maybe time to save development and build cost and make one car only, which then could be "separated" in different power stages, chassis setups and/or weight figures.

People don't want only a good track tool anymore, they also want to be fast on the Autobahn and drag strip as well.
