997 Carrera S fuel and oil consumption

After days and hours of passionate 997 Carrera S driving at maximum possible speeds and very aggressive, mixed driving in the city, on the Autobahn and a lot of nice little country roads, I got a fuel consumption of 15.5 litres/100 km which is quite impressive. I think that with the "sport" button (Chrono Sport) switched off and driving more relaxed, a fuel consumption below 12 litres/100 km should be easily possible.

Oil consumption was 0.5 litres/1000 km. Impressive too. Apparently the 997 Carrera S engine "eats" less oil than the 997 Carrera engine (real life experience).

Also interesting: the exhaust note became more aggressive over the past 200-300 km, it is clearly noticeable on the street because before or when I pass by, pedestrians turn heads (and I really don't drive at high rev in the city) because of the exhaust sound. Sound is not at the noise level of the Porsche sport exhaust but definetely more aggressive and slightly louder than on the last MY 996 (up to the facelift MY 2002, the 996 had a different exhaust sound, not that throaty and loud as on the current 996).
I'll get the Porsche sport exhaust anyway around Oct. but some people should hear the 997 S exhaust note first before ordering the sport exhaust.

Re: 997 Carrera S fuel and oil consumption

Sounds great RC!!!. Our 997S has 200kms more or less, and fuel consumption is 11.5L,12L/100kms, oil is full as you can imagine. But I'm happy to hear good news from the 997S.
I'll won't be driving the car untill September more or less, cause the car is in Madrid and I returned to Mallorca.
So how many kms have you done already to your 997.
Ohh and the engine sound is great slightly more louder than in my last 996 CC with powerkit, though I dind't had time to hear the real sound of the 997, yet.
When doing the trip from Madrid to Mallorca, I''ll try to do some videos, it will be interesting.
Have you post any photos or videos of your new 997, RC??
    Well Have fun!!!, Alex

Re: 997 Carrera S fuel and oil consumption

Hi RC,since the 29th of july i allready drove 3500km.i went to portugal for a week vacation.beautiful places, especially lisbon and cabo de rocas(the most western point of europe).anyway, the fuel cosumption is really good as well as the oil consumption.this morning i checked the oil level and the computer is still showing me a dark "BOX" out of the five(i hope i explained myself correctley).just a question.can i use the same mobil oil that i used on the 996 turbo?thank you for your advice.

BTW:i will email you some pictures so you post them for me (could you remember me your email?).

If my arithmetic is correct, for Americans 15.5 litres/100 km translates to 15.2 miles per gallon; 12 litres/100 km = 19.6 mpg.

My eMail address is simple: rc@rennteam.com .
Mobil 1 SuperSyn (this is the new Mobil 1) is perfect.
I'm using 5W-50 because I don't plan to drive the car in the deepest winter time but 0W-40 is probably "better", especially if you live in a region with mixed temperatures. For 8 years now Porsche fills only Mobil 1 to the new engines, no matter if 911, Boxster, Cayenne or even the Carrera GT. Porsche strongly recommends Mobil 1 for their engines because this is also the oil they really test with their engines.

As far as I know, the engines get at the factory 0W-40.
