Re: 2006 to start in june

Well, let me add to the mix here. I have a July allocation and I was told it WAS for a 2006 model. I just added TPMS (tire pressure monitoring) to the order and I have the confirmation printout. TPMS is a 2006 option just released. So, are you telling me my July build will be a 2005 with TPMS? I don't think so. Here is why:

    1. TPMS is now an option for my July allocation. If that July allocation is for a 2005, then Porsche is putting TPMS on my 2005 because I have confirmation that the option is included.

    2. There are no prices yet because 2006 pricing is not released yet. If my July allocation was really a 2005, prices would appear on the pro forma invoice.

    3. I am told by MY dealer that July will be the first 2006 cars but, until Porsche rolls out the 2006 models in mid to late september, my 2006 July build will sit at the dock waiting for the truck to the dealer.

So, in my head, July is a 2006, and it sits until late September.

    Cheers,

    Adam

Re: 2006 to start in june

    Unclear subject,
I've been told by my dealer and Porsche France that MY06 start 1st of August.
Some options from 06 appeared earlier,
example, Carlos' car is an 05 but his PCM can read MP3 which goes into 06 models specs, he also has PTMS, which incidentally was supposed to be available from the start, just happened to be available round about when the 06 are rolling out.

End of the day, it doesn't matter AT ALL, except for resale value so relax.

The ONLY way to know if your car is an 06 is if you've paid the 06 prices, simple as that.
You say you haven't so your car is an 05, no doubt. Good for you!

If you want, I can contact Porsche AG, but no big deal really.

Re: 2006 to start in june

Fanch you raise a good point. If I get my July build in September and its an 05, it better be 05 prices even though I am getting it in September. If its an 06, Ill pay the 06 prices and the higher resale factor. So, either way is good.

Some people are being told that 2006's begin in July and others are told August. About a month ago some were swearing that 2006's would be made in June. Two people in the "Oh Leather, Where Are Thou???" thread were told by their dealers that 2006's begin on August 1st. I do not know for sure when 2006's will be started, but I find some things to be curious. Why would Porsche start the new model year earlier than usual? Why would they store the cars for a month and a half? Wouldn't this create a logistical nightmare. If they keep making and shipping 2005's through July they will continue having a regular flow to their dealer network. If they start making 2006's in July, but hold them until late August so they will arrive at dealers in mid to late September, it sure will be a mess. Are they going to have their employees at the PDI's standing around for over a month with no cars? Or are they going to go ahead and ship them but hold them at the PDI centers? Either way, if July 2006 build with mid to late September delivery to dealers is true, they will deprive the dealers of any new cars to deliver for over 6 weeks.

As I said, I don't know the truth. I just know that for all the years that I have been a Porsche waiter, the model changeover took place in August. And since July is only about 5 weeks away, shouldn't the dealers have pricing by now? I had pricing for a 2005 cab in December 2004 even though the first cabs weren't being built until March.

Again, I don't have any way of really knowing. Just a lot of unanswered questions.

    PS CA,
My dealer ordered my car with the 06 pricing (bastard! ) which he received approximately a month ago.
In France, the price increase is from 88449 Euros to 90380 Euros.
But if you look on www.porsche.fr the price for the 997S is the 05 one. I guess they will put the new price in August, not sure...
In any case, in terms of bugs fixing, assuming they were any bugs in the 1st place (which, with the 997S let's admit, not many at all) I don't think it's from 05 to 06.
The models get constantly updated (sport exhaust, PTMS, MP3, New two tones interior, etc.), just a bit more around the model year change that's all.
Example, PCM MP3 is supposed to be for 06 but cars from now are getting it.

Re: 2006 to start in june

I may have figured out this riddle. I looked at my pro forma invoice for my "2006" 997 (it expressly says "2006") which my dealer told me was a July allocation. But is it really a July allocation?

I was sitting at the dealer's desk in April when I personally saw a Memorandum from PAG (on the Dealer's PAG PC program) that said the 2006 roll out for certain 2006 cars will be mid to late September, and the 997 was listed. I saw this with my own eyes. SO, unless there is a change, my 2006 car will not be at my dealer until mid-late September.

This means it doesn't really matter when its built - late May - June - July or August. Even the beginning of September. It's a 2006, and I aint seeing it until mid to late September.

So, while it may be 'called' a 'July' build, it may not really be built in July at all. If this scenerio is true, there is a way to correlate many of the posts in this thread.
