    ot. vw r32

seriously thinking of picking up a r32 to replace a mini cooperS as my commuter/run around/snow car.
are there any good forums out there for this car ?

    Re: ot. vw r32

    Google is your friend

    Re: ot. vw r32

    UK Mk IV's

    Re: ot. vw r32

    go to www.vwvortex.com

    Re: ot. vw r32

Did you had any problems with your cooper S???....just curious... The R32 is an amazing car, I suppose you are talking about the new one right?.......also good exhaust note.....

<Did you had any problems with your cooper S???....just curious... The R32 is an amazing car, I suppose you are talking about the new one right?>

the cooper has almost 34K, and the my biggest problem is the uncureable rattles from the sunroof. drivetrain has been perfect.I loved the car, but I've just had enough.

the "new" r32 had not made it to the us. we just this week got the GTI, which is what I went to check out. drove one, and it was a better driver than the mini. then the salesman showed me a r32. I had no idea what it was.
I really prefer the styling of the older car over the new ones. at least the old cars look german, not japaneese/korean

I drove a 2004, and it was just a blast. a bit heavy ( 3,300 lbs+) vs. the coopers 2,800 lbs, but plenty responsive, and sounds amazing.
There is one in my immediate future

    Re: ot. vw r32

I also have a Cooper S and have driven an R32, but I found the R32 to be a little dull on the fun-factor especially for the price tag...

You are talking about the 2004 model and not the 2006 right?

    Re: ot. vw r32

    I have a 2005 mini cooper S, and it is just perfect!!!!..I love it....I wouldn't change my car for a 2004 R32.....

The mini its just exclusive and "funky" ....The only problem I can think of is the fuel consumption, its now in the mid 12's liters per 100km.. , but still its a toy car....

Does anybody has the works exhausts???

    Re: ot. vw r32

    alex,
i did the pulley, the cold air and the HR lowering springs. I put a borla exhaust on after I was rear ended. frankly, I could not tell any difference from the stock exhaust. If I bought anyother mini, i'd do everything except the exhaust.
by far,the best thing I did , was to put a set of BBS RG-F 16" wheels @ 13 lbs each, along with some yohohamas, and dumped the 26 lb 17" stock wheels changed everything..handling and acceleration all much much improved. zero lag off the line. looked great..soon to be for sale.
I always said that my mini was like my microwave. I'll always own one .

hurst..by the time I spec out the mini with packages, lsd, leather, stereo, etc and spend another 1,200 for the pulley, and cold air I'm getting up there. the mini certainly retains value, but around here almost all of the r32's for sale are at or above the 29K original price

    Re: ot. vw r32

Darius and I oredered 2 Golf Gti ..... We think that the 2000 turbo is better than the 3200 v6 because with a little eprom tuning the car has 240 hp ....
In a lot of tests made by magaziens the R32 seems to have less hp than VW say (235-240) ...so the gti is faster than R32 . (same power ,less weight ,no 4wd ) ...

    bye!

is it my imagination, or does the new golf seems a lot bigger than the previous car?
I know the weight issue, but the interior/seats on the r32 is very appealing for a car of this size.

    Re: ot. vw r32

I KNOW ! theese recaro bucket seats are the best !
    buy my friend,buy !!! lol

    Re: ot. vw r32

Try the Mitsubishi Evo. It'll destroy the R32 performance-wise.

    Yes, the 2004.

I'm around 1500 miles on my 06 MCS and I am already thinking about upgrades .

A friend of mine recommended Billy Boat Exhausts. Judging by their website's videos/audio, they sound good, but for 1000$?

What ratio did you change the pulleys to? Did you try the MITH mod-chip?

Sorry for asking these questions on a Porsche forum, a lot of the Mini forums are filled with morons

    Re: ot. vw r32

< friend of mine recommended Billy Boat Exhausts. Judging by their website's videos/audio, they sound good, but for 1000$?>
that's 1,000 down the drain. I had the borla, but it didn't make power ( nor was it sold as such) and didn't sound much different than the stock exhaust. most exhausts actually cost you power where you need it and may add a bit at the very top end
my pully, I believe was 17%. there are also 15 %.
if you want the straight scoop, these guys are in philly. eric is as honest and knowledgeable as they come. he did my pulley and springs, the shop has a dyno. people come from all over the east coast and have shipped him cars to work on:
    http://www.helix13.com
the cold air makes power on this car (easy diy) and the pulley really does also.
the cooper works package offers little more than you can accomplish for a whole lot less. the car will push close to 195 hp with these mods alone.
lowering springs are cheap and help handling. did you get the LSD ?
also..those 16"bbs w/ yoko's are now for sale as well as winter tires w/ wheels, and a set of the original 17" run flats, if you are interested
    happy motoring <g>

    sergini,
<I KNOW ! theese recaro bucket seats are the best ! buy my friend, buy !!! lol>

    I did, today <g>
9,400 mile, as new, blue w/ leather car. factory warantee up to 2011. the dealer also offered me a $500.00 insurance for wheels and tires for 5 years. full replacement on any wheel or tire due to road hazard, and those wheels look very pricey.
    thanks for the encouragement.

    Re: ot. vw r32

Yes, go to www.vwvortex.com, there's a whole section on the R32

IMO, The 04 R32 is the best bargain on the automotive planet, and far, far superior in all around performance and handling to the Mini Cooper S.

Mine has been trouble free, used as a daily driver while the GT2 and GT3 sit in the garage.

The repalcement for my R32 would probably be an RS4!

Don't believe me, go try them in varying road conditions and judge for your self

Again, one of the great automotive bargains. A lot of people must agree with me because the prices have gone up on this "used" car!

    Re: ot. vw r32

Not that the R32 is winning beauty contests either.

    Re: ot. vw r32

    cnc,
after 2 days I have to tell you I like this car a lot. it weighs 500 lbs more than the mini, and does not have that seat of the pants/ in your face feel that the mini did, but has a great interior with those koenig seats.
it is rock solid, and i could be wrong, but the r 32 handles as well as the 997s
    I paid 28 K for a 9,500 mile car. it sold for 29 K 2 years ago, and I think I got a great deal.
