I urge you to read your owners manual dealing with Warranties.

Re: How many people DON'T take their car to the track?

I think taking the car to the track is generally safe. Given you are with a good organization (PCA, etc) and run in group within your skill level limit. You don't have to drive the car really hard at the track if you don't want to. At least you don't have to worry about speed limit, cops, and everyone is going in the same direction (I hope:) Drivers at the track generally have better driving knowledge so they are more predicable than people on the highway.

I have done a few autocrosses. I don't really like it because you only get about 5 to 10 min of driving, and for the rest of the day, just waiting or doing track work (picking cones), a waste of time and money.

Re: How many people DON'T take their car to the track?

You are right about the autocross. However, for tracking, one should expect there will be demage on the car sometime. When you first started, you will take it easy. Once you get use to it, you will push the car to the limit every time. That's the name of the game. Play it the way you can afford it. Like what I said before, at the mean time, I will keep my 997 on the steet.

Re: How many people DON'T take their car to the track?

Perhaps it is my youth, but I believe everyone should try an autocross or track event some time in their life. It is hard to really appreciate these cars without driving on the track or seriously breaking the law (and endangering others) on the street.

I don't think I could stand autocrossing on the East coast. Looking at some of the results, the courses seem to be 30 seconds long and you wait all day for 2 minutes of track time.

Here in SoCal, we have Lotus practice days with 1.5 mile courses and a bit over 30 minutes of driving time. Between runs, you are able to adjust your car and think about your mistakes. There are many more manuevers than on a track. This really pales in comparison to track day seat time, but for autox, this is a LOT. In this venue, you can push your car over the limit to some extent.

As for SCCA events, I am discovering that the nature of the sport is not seat time, but competition to see who can drive a strange course the fastest with only 3-4 runs.

Not me! Too precious to take any chances.
