    Six-year service due next month

    My 2011 997 Carrera GTS is due it's 6-year/60,000 mile service next month.  It hasn't reached 30K miles as yet and I've had varying quotes from two OPC's as to what issues this service should cover...

    They both agree on:-  Standard Minor Service - £395  and Brake fluid change - £95

    One OPC has included these additional maintenance requirements - for a further charge of £422.05....

    1) Replace engine air cleaner.  2) Replace engine drive belt.  3) Change PDK clutch fluid.  4) Check TPMS battery life.

    Which of the quotes do you guys think would be most appropriate for my car at this stage? - Many thanks...

    First of all congrats John, that GTS is a keeper.

    FWIW, the TPMS's batteries lasted 6 years on my 997, but must of had over 60k miles on it by then (battery may go down faster the more miles you do per year I would guess?)

    Just one question, what is the point of checking the TPMS battery life? unless they changed them later, my 997's TPMS were encased in a resin type and could not be opened to change its battery, so when the battery went out you needed to put new ones. So no point in checking the battery, when the battery starts to go, they start to loose connection, take longer to connect and get a read out when you start the car, etc, and you replace them, period. Or have they changed the units on later 997's and allow for battery replacement?

    These service schedules are made by manufacture, don´t understand how two official OPC have different approaches to the same schedule period!

    Apart from that and having in mind 6 year service, I would go for the more complete assistance

    There are clear guidelines on what has to be done for this particular service, so I do not understand why two OPCs say one thing and a third says something different.

    I do believe checking the tire pressure sensor batteries, unless the is a wireless check, is not a good idea. Perhaps while replacing tires but why break the tire loose for that?  I don't ever remount tires. 

    Not course my dealer has such extremely incompetent service and criminal rates that other than warranty service they are a worthless as a tit on a man.  My mechanic is awesome, works on race cars on the weekend, and routinely charges me hundreds less for service that he originally quoted. Thousands less than the dealer over the years.  Not advising others to avoid their dealer. Just here in KC.

    6 years using original battery wow! you must be lucky! 

    Mine started to cough on start up the fourth year, trickle charger would bring her back to life for an immediate replacement.

    BiTurbo - I think you're mixing up batteries?  I'm referring to the TPMS ones.

    Matter of fact though - my original engine battery, from new, is still going strong after six years..Smiley

    I would definitely do #1, #2, and #3 - these are all important and 6 years is plenty for their life.  #1 you can do yourself in just a few minutes (don't have to remove the rear bumper as in the 991).  #2 and #3 should be done by dealer or good independent Porsche shop.
