    997 Headlight Thefts

Apparently Porsche litronic headlights are super easy to steal.

    Porsche Headlights Popular To Steal

Has anyone you know actually had theirs stolen?

    Re: 997 Headlight Thefts

Yes, there was a thread several weeks ago about this:

See: "Went to the supermarket and guess what?"

    Re: 997 Headlight Thefts

I had to have the trunk latch repaired on my 997, and the waiting room and door was directly in-line with the service stall. The tech had to remove the both my litronic headlights to remove the front bumper, and the lights and bumper are only attached with a few screws, then they slide right out. The lights don't even need to be realigned when placed back in as they are mounted to 'tracks' or reference points. Took less than 10 minutes to remove them once the hood was up...Of course he was 'slow' because he gets paid by time. With the right tools, nothing is safe!

    Re: 997 Headlight Thefts

This seems to be a big problem in Miami.

a class action suit against Porsche might be in order....

    American solution to everything LOL

    Re: 997 Headlight Thefts

you should see if you can get an allen key headed screw or bolt to hold the lights in..

i saw this in a car stereo security mag the u.s one, where a bloke had used allen key headed screws or bolts for holding his speakers in, obviously this will catch any theif off guard because how many theives carry allen keys?

to them its the philips and flat screw drivers!

what you can also do is to use thick ty raps this will also make them harder to remove quick!

you have to use ''IQ'' to beat theives, a few simple measures can make it hard...

    i hope this helps...

Yep that's us.....12% of the world's population and 80% of the world's attorneys. Not that there's anything wrong with that.....no offense to the legal folks out there.

Is this going to be obvious before they start hacking away at the lights? Somehow they need to be deterred from a distance or at least know not to bother trying anything.

    Re: 997 Headlight Thefts

I'll tell you, I'd get a little bit miffed if my headlights wound up missing more than zero times! I can't believe Porsche didn't put a little thought into a more secure system for the owners.

    Re: 997 Headlight Thefts

Does this happen with other cars? BMW, Benz etc?

    Re: 997 Headlight Thefts

Yes; a colleague had his lights stolen *twice* from his Acura - apparently they can be used in some other ricer - Toyota or something.
