    New C2S arrived!!

    It is here! picked it up yesterday and went to dinner in Lafayette. It smelled like a melting candle all the way home. Anyway we took it out for a drive today, and went on some country roads. Awesome!! Anyone know what it is supposed to sound like when you start it up, mine sounds like someone shaking a can with rocks in it. It starts right away and there are no sounds asfter the initial turnover of the motor. It almost sounds like a pre-ignition sound. Any thoughts?

    Very nice my friend! Do you have PSE? With PSE, you get a pretty loud initial growl at startup when it's cold.. Looks gorgeous, enjoy in good health. We'll be looking for ya on the nor-ca highways!

    No PSE but the rattling start up noise has quit for now. It was the first four or five times that I used the starter that it made the rattling noise. Really sounded like a loud pre-ignition pinging.

    Nice car, bcenteno. Carrera classics look really good with that color (looks like Atlas?). What other options did you get?
    First twenty seconds after cold startup can sound like all he11 breaking loose. At cold startup mine does all or some of:

    1.) a metallic rattle/vibration for a few seconds (exhaust warming up)

    2.) clackety tappet/valvetrain noise for five or ten sec (oil circulating & reaching all surfaces--my C2S makes this noise ONLY if the car's been sitting idle for >48 hours),

    3.) popcorn sort of percussion from tailpipes while idling for first ten sec while the cylinders clear...I don't object to this sound, sounds kind of bada$$ actually

    All above are normal-- in my opinion.
    If the metallic rattling thing persists after the first 20 or 30 seconds beyond first week or two of ownership, stop at your dealer to have exhaust hangers/underbody shields checked for rubs.

    When the car came out the reviewers all seemed to say the engine idle was noisy and sounded crummy at when cold (at start up).

    Very nice looking C2S. Noises at startup all sound normal - call it character or something but it is a characteristic of these cars.

    I got the sport shifter, bose stereo, dimming mirrors, full leather interior, nav.,power seats.Color is Atlas grey, sand beige interior. I'll post some more photos when I get a scenic spot to shoot. Incredible car!!

    Congrats on 'joining the club'

    Rattling exhaust sound on start-up partly due to pump which accelerates the heating process of the cats.

    Thanks for the options list! Have you been a member here prior to buying your car? I only ask becuase I am curious if the list had persuaded you in anyway to get or not get some options.

    Yes I did frequent this board and others. I was influenced to get the sport shifter but resisted the PSE, since I want to get the AWE cats and muffler. Love my car!! Drove up to NAPA tonight and took the wife out for dinner. Love the stares...

    Exhaust gurgling/pinging noises are normal on a 997 start up - go figure!
