    reginos:

I would get the 991 facelift , expected as from summer 2015. The main changes amongst others will be, better looking DRLs, power equal to the present X51 and much improved e-steering.

Particularly for Porsche I would always prefer the facelifted model:

    1. Normally they sort out the design flaws of the first version
    2. You'll have the latest and best of the discontinued model

I assume they would also introduce the rear-wheel steering to the Carrera range (at least the S version), either as standard feature or as an option.

I also believe that this time they will introduce the GTS much earlier than for the 997, since by judging from what Porsche did with the Panamera and Cayenne, the GTS is becoming a regular addition to the range, as opposed to an late and special proposition.  Just like what they are doing with the Turbo S moniker, which may mean that it will command a substantial premium over the regular Carrera S contrary to the 997 GTS vs. Carrera S Smiley.

So guys, if the 991 Targa debuts as a 2014 model, is there a possibility that in 2015 this "new" Targa will be facelifted  just one year later? Just trying to determine if it makes sense buying a 2014 or waiting for the facelift, since ill probably be keeping her at least 5 years.

    RC:

Back to topic: I heard something about a 991 Turbo Targa today, not sure if true or possible but it would be an interesting alternative to the Cab.

I've heard this too from my UK dealer

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

Nah, facelift will be no earlier than 2015 as a MY2016.

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

991 Turbo and Turbo S Cab should be expected spring/summer 2014.

At the IAA this year, the 991 Turbo and Turbo S will be shown, together with the 918 Spyder and apparently one "surprise" car. I also heard that the Macan will be presented end of this year, not next year as rumored. So maybe there is going to be a Macan study at the IAA or maybe the 991 GT3 RS which is also expected to show up at some point this year or early next year. I wouldn't also be surprised to see the 991 Targa at the IAA too.

Not always true, imho. In general, the original design is the more cohesive one. Sure, if there are flaws in the original design, it is likely to be fixed come a facelift. But generally, the converse is true; a clean, good design is generally ruined by the facelift. Some examples:

987.1 to 987.2: failure; the funky rear tail lenses make no sense; the more angular headlight may hark back to the CGT, but they don't fit the design

997.1 to 997.2: draw or success; the facelifted version I find a bit more interesting visually then the original; however, the original has no issues imo

Panamera: minor success; only so much you can do with the rear roof line within the constraints of a facelift

Non Porsche example: BMW E90: not a success; although I like the tail lights of the facelifted (a**lifted?) version, the original is a cleaner design imo

RC, I was told by local Porsche contact that we will see in Frankfurt the 991 50 Years Anniversary model. This could be the surprise?

I never waited for a facelift and was actually pretty happy with my choice (996 Turbo...997 Turbo). Why miss out three years or so on the fun? Smiley

The only Porsche I regret buying too early was the 996 Carrera: Especially the PCM (first gen) quirks drove me crazy.

You don't miss out anything, you just have to buy later in the model cycle. Smiley

Plus you won't have any problem with the bugs of the first model year. I will never buy a brand new car in its first year of production again.

Like I said...only had issues with the first 996 Carrera, mostly PCM issues.

Well...I actually had tire (Pirelli) issues with my first 996 Turbo...small cracks on the tire tread wall. Pirelli stated that this is not dangerous but I demanded an exchange and got one...after a Pirelli engineer threw a look at my car. Weird thing, never happened to me again (thanks god).

Retro styling for new Porsche 911 Targa...

    (31 May 2013)

"The Porsche 911 Targa is set to become the next version of the 991-generation 911 to be revealed, judging by the lack of camouflage on this prototype, which was caught pounding around the Nürburgring last week.

The pictures reveal a return to its roots for the design of the latest Targa. The B-pillars wrap over the roof and there is a retro-style removable glass panel in place of the sliding glass roof that was seen on the previous, 997-generation Targa. A convex rear screen, bespoke to the Targa, also features.

As with its predecessor, the 911 Targa is expected to be all-wheel drive only and take its 345bhp 3.4-litre and 395bhp 3.8-litre flat six engines from the 911 cabriolet on which it is based.

The new Targa is expected  to make its public debut at the Los Angeles motor show in November, to avoid distracting from the launch of the new 911 Turbo and Turbo S and the 918 Spyder at the Frankfurt motor show in September."

I get it, the 911 is too expensive (yes, I actually share his opinion). Does the pricing make the 911 a bad car? I doubt it.

Do I like the 202k EUR my new 991 Turbo S costs? Of course not. I had been offered a 997 Turbo S two years ago for 25k EUR less with practically the same options.

Pricing is one thing but the quality of a car a different one. If the "greedy" pricing makes Porsche cars better, well...I have not much to complaint about. However, for this kind of money, I would have expected at least 600 hp in the new Turbo S. Smiley Smiley

I'm afraid I see what is going to happen with the new 991 GT3: Journalists will drive this car, they will be faster in it, they will be amazed by the handling but at the end of the day, they will claim that the 991 GT3 is too comfortable. Smiley

IMO the 991 is 20.000 EUR better than the 997, in terms of speed, composure, ride, transmission and interior materials. Big jump from Porsche in many departments with the consequent price increase.

You are always faster in a more comfortable car, and this even applies to race cars. So why the possible fuss about the GT3

Very nice but I expected a power bump too. The anniversary model should have 410 or 420 hp, at least a couple of horses more than the regular model, even if it is on paper only. Great looking car, it really reminds me of the classic 911 models but I miss some sort of power "incentive".
