    Uneven Tire Wear on C4S

Has anyone had a problem with uneven tire wear on a C4S? Had a flat tire this weekend and when we inspected tires both front and rear were wearing substantially more on the inside. Could this be caused by factory settings for wheels? Does anyone know the approx. replacement mileage for stock Conti tires?

Re: Uneven Tire Wear on C4S

Just curious - how many miles do you have on these tires?

Re: Uneven Tire Wear on C4S

    19,000 km

Re: Uneven Tire Wear on C4S

Just went and took a look at the tires... and then stared at the car for about 10 minutes, both the tires (3000km) and the car look great

19,000 km on the same tires? I thought I heard that tires on these type of cars ( P's, F's, Lambo's) usually need to be replaced closer to 10k miles????

I've done 11,500 miles on Michelin Pilots with hardly any sign of wear and I haven't been 'hanging around'

At 19,000km you are lucky to have any tires left!! j/k

Serously, this can be due to the negative camber that stock setting has in order to provide more grip on the corners, since its a sportcar, the grip takes precedence over the even wear of the tires.

So more wear on the inside is normal to a degree inthese cars, especially is you don't drive the car very hard and you ride mostly on the inside of the tires due to lack of cornering forces causing the suspesnion & tire not to flaten on the curves (thast why negative camber is dialed in, to couteract this effect) causing wear more on the inside.

I'm reaching 11000Km on mine and I can't belive they are still lasting! I exècted 10000km by the way they were wearing initially, but maybe due to the very cold temperatures we are getting (close to 0*C) the wear has been slowed down a bit. Maybe 1000 o 2000km more and they will be over though.

Re: Uneven Tire Wear on C4S

my car has 20,000 miles on Pilots and are easily at more than half tread....

Re: Uneven Tire Wear on C4S

    20,000miles? thats 30,000km!!

    Wow!

I have nearly 5000 miles on mine (approx. 8000km's) and mine are beginning to show significant wear across all 4 tires. Mine's a C2S and I'm on Pirelli's.

I can't even begin to imagine how you can get 19 - 30,000 km's out of any of these tires. How are you driving the car???

    Re: Wow!

I'm surre some drives thei 911 like VW beetles. In that case, you could do 50.000km on the same tires. Not a problem.

If you buy the car for its looks, then tires can last as long as on a bmw 325i. (they are probably not many people who do that on this forum, but IMO a LOT of P-buyers don't even know what the car can do. They just buy it as a status symbol)

    Re: Wow!

Its sad that we wonder how someone get 20K miles on a tire. I guess this is what we can expect with performance tires.

IMO that's a bit harsh. I know what my car can do - unfortunately I can't do it all of the time!!

If you're tracking your car regularly on your normal road tyres you can expect vastly reduced mileage from them. But if you use it as a daily drive and treat it sensibly then 20,000 miles or more is easily attainable.

However, if you turn off PSM and light up the rears at every given opportunity, and indulge in regular red-light activities then so be it. I would have thought, though, that the state of your rears would be far worse than the fronts.

It also seems me, from comments so far, that Michelin Pilots are a much better proposition than Pirellis.

    Re: Wow!

It may also depend on the surface temperatures in your country, the abrasiveness of the asfalt, and most importantly the driving/traffic/speeding situation in the country.

My 997S has not seen any track days yet, but I may get 12000km out of them at most, and the wear is perfectly even too (no inner wear) due to the cornering agressiveness, But then a again I over 200km/h in my comutes, and attack corners on the weekends (and some comuting) and sometimes even play a little with the tail. If I were living in Orlando or London for example I would probably get 50,000Km out of the same tires in the same car

So it can depend more on the situation than on the driver too

    Re: Wow!

Good point Carlos - but are you using Michelins, Pirellis or something else?

Also, are your tyres wearing evenly front and rear?

    Re: Wow!

    Hi John,

I'm using Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's. I love this tire due to its grip and handling performance so I will be changing into the same tires without a doubt, I don't care if they wear out quick.

My rears are more worn that the rear but not as much as I would of thought. I'd say roughly that if my rears are 85% worn, then my fronts are maybe 70% worn
