    Really not impressed with this evolution, the front styling is messy and the plastic diffusor looks plain cheap. I accept that turbocharging was a necessity and a given, but I strongly dislike what it does to a sportscar, I can only hope this will increase the gap between the 'regular' 911's and the hardcore Motorsport variants as the turbocharging should make it a better daily and GT, and NA should remain for the real enthousiasts.

    Finally it doesn't have those ugly back plates anymore.... was about time to jump to the 21st century of door handles. Also.... it seems they took the one of the Golf and made them fit Smiley

    Depending on steering angle, sometimes it's helpful to have the redundant lever.

    I agree I've never used the shift lever to manually change gear - although I would if I had the old ghastly wheel with those dreadful push me pull you switches. I guess those abortions have at long last been consigned to the scrap bin where they belong!

    Yeah, the lever stays where it is suppose to be, while the wheel mounted paddles moves around and escape when you need them. Smiley

    On a track, where most steering angle are at most 90 degree to the left or right, both hands do stay on the wheel at 3 and 9 and close to the paddles, but the brain still needs to compute that the up shift paddle has moved to the left side but still under the right hand. 

    On the street, the most common shift with wheels cranked more than 90 is the 1-2 shift, around 2-3k rpm, with small to moderate throttle say in parking lots or something. Wheels mounted paddles means one has to look at the wheel just to see where 'up' is and then find the right paddle. Fixed paddles or levers means there is no need to hunt for the correct paddle.

    like Ferrari already did years ago ....I agree with you ....get rid of the redundant shift stalk and that  flimsy vent blocking swing out cupholder perched dangerously over the expensive electronic bits in the center stack and put a proper deep wide , spill containing cinching mug holder in the console !

    that will happen 100 % guaranteed in the 992 , as the manual transmission will be history in all 911s , so the center console will ax a selector stalk , just as they have already axed the console's  space- occupying manual parking break lever

    if one is squinting at a teeny tiny  gear indicator dot of  light in a dark instrument binnacle while " driving in anger " , instead of the road ahead, god help all the innocent cyclists or pedestrians ,  not to mention other drivers !

    So correct on that one.  Not only by feel but practice trains the muscles to make the shifts almost subconsciously and practice, of course, means driving the car whenever time avails.

    No idea. I just spent 5 days at Nürburgring with the GT4 and never had an issue with the gear shifts... and I have been shifting A LOT Smiley

    It is a true pleasure to feel the car trough the gears. I am a huge fan of PDK too, but it does not connect you to the car in the same way as manual does. I am not talking of the arcane shift pattern, but the feeling you get based on speed, rpm and gear. With PDK this is all gone. It is a pretty interesting experience and I only had this insight once I went from PDK to manual on a track.

    That is pretty rare.  People are not perfect and make mistakes, but I can't remember the last time I saw this happen at the track - have you seen it?

    I've never seen or heard of anyone on the track making a "money shift."  However, I do know of this happening several times on the street by individuals with less than mediocre driving skills.  Of course, PDK may be slightly faster around the track, but I am not a professional race car driver where the quickest time is more important than the driving experience.Smiley 21

    There is too much money to be made by Porsche with all the Exclusive/Tequipment PDK upgrade shift selectors - alcantara, aluminium, wood, different leather colours, carbon etc - for them to ditch this item I suspect.

    PSE exhaust pipe tips are now old school " American -styled " hot rod blingy with their mirror -finish chrome plating and thick rolled  edges as opposed to traditional European sports cars with exhaust pipe tips that looked like someone sliced a more muted sophisticated looking brushed - finish pipe with a swing of a very sharp Samurai  sword

    there is something "off " about the design of these new wheels, as opposed to the nice center lock mesh ones on the current GTS ...can't quite put my finger on it ....they look sorta " generic off the shelf cast BBS from the 1996  Tire Rack catalog "  for some reason ....maybe the thick vertical rim where they meet the tire bead ?
