I Have A June Production Date for US GT3!!

I just heard from my Porsche dealer. He has a June production date for his first US GT3.....And It's Mine!! YaHoo!

Re: I Have A June Production Date for US GT3!!

My production date is also June and the dealer is saying to look for an August delivery. I spec'ed the car pretty simply:

X1 Artic Silver (I wanted Polar Silver but not for $3K)
49 Black full leather (Again I wanted the Natural Grey but not for $4.4K)
    M6A Black Mats
    P74 Xenon lights
X70 Metal door insignia (I had these on my 996 and liked them)
XMP Leather sun visors (I hated the plastic ones on my 996)
X71 Aluminum instrument gages (to break up all the black)

That's it. I'll be ordering some GT3 seats aftermarket to replace the standard sports seats and that should do it.

    Re: No Cruise, Karl? NT

No, I have it on all my other vehicles and never use it. I doubt we'll use the GT3 for long trips too much because I won't let the dog get into the back (even though there's probably room).

Re: I Have A June Production Date for US GT3!!

Has anyone requested a no radio/ac build even though it is not on the order guide?

Re: I Have A June Production Date for US GT3!!

Actually, my dealer called today and said you have to specify if you want AC. It's a no charge option but the default is the GT3 doesn't have it. My car is going to be mainly used on the street so I opted for it, since VA summers can be quite unbearable, particularly with a black interior. It's not in the order guide but apparently the AC option pops up when the dealer orders the car.

I didn't ask and the dealer didn't say anything about radio delete, so I'm assuming that's not an option. IMHO if you want a pure track car, get the GT3 Cup and be done with it.

    Karl

I assumed the car came with GT3 seats. If not how

much are they charging if you were to order them from the factory?

Re: I Have A June Production Date for US GT3!!

Ksalno - Are you in USA? In USA, the AC and radio are standard and there is no option code to delete them that I am aware of.

Karl: FYI, I believe the differential between the cost of the full leather option (black) and Natural Grey leather would "only" be about US $1400.

Re: I assumed the car came with GT3 seats. If not how

I don't know what the price would be directly from the factory, but the seats are available from vendors for less than $3k a pair including brackets and sliders.

Re: I Have A June Production Date for US GT3!!

    Jack, it's a $1500 difference but who's counting

Too much for just a different color IMHO.

    Karl

Re: I assumed the car came with GT3 seats. If not how

You can't get them from the factory on a US car, so the aftermarket is the only way to go. And with the $ continuing to slide against the Euro, the price has inched up to over $3K for a pair of seats from Carnewal. There may be some other vendors who have black in stock in the US that will sell them at the old price.

    Karl

Re: I Have A June Production Date for US GT3!!

    Grant,

Yes, I'm in the US. My dealer went to enter my order today and, even though it is not in the order guide, he found that he had to enter a N/C option code in order to get AC. The option code for AC is 573. If you don't order it, you won't get it, is how the dealer explained it to me.

Re: I Have A June Production Date for US GT3!!

Thanks, Karl! I'm thinking about doing without A/C. Will this destroy resale value?

Re: I Have A June Production Date for US GT3!!

Gert does have a sale on black leather buckets at less than $2.9k. I am also looking for the XSL bar. Not sure if the car has the 481 front console??? It is not N/C in ROW so maybe not. The fewer PCNA hacks the better. Personally I think if you need AC you are into the wrong car. We all cry and cry nonstop for sport cars and then when push comes to shove it becomes clear that we really don't want one. No wonder Porsche does what it does most of the time. Look at the 959. Out of over 200 build, only 6 were sport, the rest comfort. Disgraceful in my opinion.

    Air Conditioning?

Yes... AC should not be needed in a purist car like the GT3. I rarely ever use my AC even though I live in the hottest, most humid place in the US.

The problem is that there are very few "minimalists" out there when it comes to such things as AC. Athough we may not need AC, when it comes time to sell the car to the "softies" who make up 99% of the market, then not having AC will be a big issue, in my opinion. Just look around to see how many windows are down on the cars around you on a nice sunny 80 degree day. Not many.

    Re: Air Conditioning?

Remember that AC is available in the first place in sport cars bc the cockpit gets so HOT!
That was the case in the F40 for example.
But in the GT3, you have a point, it is more of a comfort option.
Spider, know that if you don't use your AC REGULARLY, it could break down, AC NEEDS to be on all the time!
There is a proper technical reason for that BTW, check with a specialist,
    Fanch.

    Polar Grey

I have a polar gray car and it is FAB!
Makes a difference, especially bc it is so rare, and when I parl next to an arctic grey model, the difference is obvious!
In the sunshine, you can spot nice shades of light blue!
    Very nice,
but again, it is mostly for yourself, as these are all variations of grey.
Saw a Polar gray GT2 the other day, so pretty!!!
    Fanch.
PS: Not quite as blue as Grigrio alloy ferrari but same sort of blueish grey if you don't see what I mean.

Re: I Have A June Production Date for US GT3!!

    Grant,

Order it the way you want. I don't think it will affect the resale value but it may limit the number of potential buyers.

If you look at the current market for RSA Americas (sort of the GT3 of their time), lots of people are buying them as track cars and prefer cars w/o AC and with LSD. OTOH, if someone is looking at is as a street car, they will probably want AC unless they live somewhere where the summers aren't hot and humid. I think the future market will be similar for the GT3.

    Karl

    Karl

    You've got to be kidding

The GT3 is a street car, period. If you were a "purest" you'd buy a GT3 SuperCup, R, or RS.

I would not buy the car without AC. Even if I still lived in the PNW where I never used AC, the resale would outweight the .5 hp and few pounds it adds.

    Just my .02 worth.

    Roy

Re: You've got to be kidding

    Roy,

I agree with you. My GT3 will be a daily driver (except for winter's like this one). So for me, adding a few "comfort" items will make the car easier to live with and won't affect its performance on the street.

For the track, I have an '01 GT3 Cup, which weighs 2550 lbs and has all the requisite safety equipment standard.

Street cars must have compromises to make them usable on the street. I tried to develop my 996 into a street/track car but the more I tuned it for the track, the less "streetable" it became. Like many before me, I finally gave up and got a dedicated track car and will use the GT3 as a street car that will see a little track time at select DEs.

I had to have the AC compressor replaced on my Tahoe. It may have been from lack of use. Since that time, I run the AC for a few minutes on all the vehicles on a periodic basis.

Re: You've got to be kidding

I'd love to talk to you sometime about your experiance with the cup car. I have one on order (2004 delivery) and currently run the Lotus at the track. If you don't mind, I'd like to send you an e-mail asking about costs, service, etc on your cup car...

    Thanks
    Roy

    Aircon

Personally, I would delete it on a GT3. But that's just me and probably where I live. I rarely use it on the Turbo anyway.

As for resale, I figure there are as many nuts in the used market as there are in the new.

I do think that the GT3 is a special case though. That is a hard core car and for that reason I do believe that the non-aircon cars could become more desirable over time.

Just get what you want to get.

I too would be very interested to hear more about this car. Is this a toy or do you race it?

    Re: GT3 Cup car

I race it in the PCA Club Race series as a GTC3 car. I've looked at SCCA but can't really find a class for it. The great thing about running in GTC3 is that there are always plenty of cars in the class and you have to keep the car stock as delivered from the factory. That avoids spending lots more money on upgrades for a car that is already seriously fast.

I bought the car at the end of last season from a US team that ran it for a year in Grand Am Cup. The year prior, it ran in the Carrera Cup series in Germany and even had Saacha Massen as a pilot for 7 races.

If you want more info or pictures, drop me a line.

    Re: GT3 Cup car

I'm curious since your car was with two other race teams, one in Europe, if you had to change a lot stuff to bring it back to the PCA GTC3 class spec? We are dealing with these class questions with a new racer, not a Porsche, because each sanctioning group has slightly different specs even for stock-type classes.

    Re: GT3 Cup car

The Carrera Cup series runs the cars as they come from the factory. So there were no problems with that series.

However, for Grand Am Cup, a few things had to be changed. Grand Am does not allow center lock wheels, so the car was set up with 5 bolt hubs. I had to have it returned to the original center lock set-up (which I prefer anyway). Also, Grand Am is free on suspension mods, so we had to remove the tripe adjustable JRZs and replace them with the stock Bilsteins and springs. Fortunately, that's the way the car came from Germany, so the team still had all the stock parts.

That was about it, if I remember correctly.
