I've had my Boxster "base" for only a month now and brake dust is driving me nuts... The car is perfectly clean except the wheels... What are you guys doing about this?
Part of the joys of sports car ownership - but I find a layer of wax on the wheels helps. It may not reduce the brake dust but most of it just rinses off with a hose... remeber to dry those brake discs though!!!
I wax my wheels. It holds up great. Try Blitz wax. That is the longest lasting wax I have ever used. Good stuff. When you wax your rims you never have to use chemicals to clean them. Just use a quality car wash and cleaning is a breeze.
If you are posting about brake dust, then you are probably gonna be bothered enough that no amount of wheel waxing will satisfy you. Between washes, just wipe off the dust with a small dash - sized "car duster" type product from local auto parts chain store for $7. " Sucks " the dust right off w/o pushing it around or leaving any residue . Throw it away and get a new one every few months. No muss, no fuss.Takes me about 10 seconds per wheel on my Turbo and doesn't create cloud of inhaled brake dust like you'd get if you just wiped with a dry cloth.
I have been using a product that Michelin released called Brake Dust Repellent. It enormously reduces brake dust on the wheel and caliper. You spray it on a clean wheel and 15 seconds later you wipe it off. You will notice that your wheels stay cleaner even after hard braking. A MUST HAVE!! You can pick this up at your local Auto Zone for $5.99 (usd). It is the 3rd step in the Michelin tire and wheel care system. I don't recommend the wheel cleaner or the tire shine.
