911S X51 PCCB sport chassis 1st impressions
It's been a long day, but a great day!
Barely 3 hours sleep then flight to Nice to pick up the car and a 900 km drive back to Paris, perfect for break in!
I will post a proper road test later in the week I promise but in the meantime, here are my first impressions:
Bear in mind the only car I can only compare it to is the one I've owned (996 C4 Cab), very different, this one is more sporty, 61 hp more and more than 100 kgs less.
But here we go:
Flat 6 is most impressive by its elasticity and torque! It's amazing! Especially compared to the 996, there much more surge from very low rpm, you can feel the engine is much more eager to rev.
I was breaking it in so I didn't go passed 5000 rpm more or less, I'm almost at 1000 km so if weather allows tomorrow, I will go all the way to 7200 rpm, should be a fantastic experience!
The suspensions are much harder than what I expected! Not uncomfortable but not comfortable either if that makes any sense, you can really feel any bump of the road right through your jaw!
Compared to my previous car, the steering is greatly improved, much more direct, it's almost telepathic, fantastic, but easy to cruise too on motorway with cruise control on.
The assisted steering really is fantastic, it's lighter in town yet, more feelsome on open roads.
The brakes, ahhh, the brakes, mama mia! Fritz, I conditionned them the way you told me to (although not hard enough I believe), and boy do those yellow devils bite! Massive decelaration! Awesome!
Car is very robust, very well put together, adaptative sports seats a huge improvement over 996.
Engine is full of torque, it's great, cruising at 120 kmh in 6th, press the pedal and you're almost instantly doing 180 kmh, also a very big improvement on 996.
Color is great (Slate grey), never saw it before and I'm not dispappointed! Thanks to Ron and my sister (pictured) for chosing it for me!
The sport exhaust is just as good as on my 996, nice deep growl, can't wait to redline the engine!
There is indeed no wire to unplug on powerkit engines to have it on all the time but at the risk of shocking guys, I'm not even gonna try.
Part of the attraction for me of XLF is that you can disable it for motorway drive to enjoy the excellent quality of the Bose sound sytem.
So I'll keep it this way, the cut off is really no big deal, you still get sport sound when starting from standstil and if you're gentle with the throttle, it actually stays on all the time!
Sport chrono is nice, mostly nicer for heel and toeing so far as throttle input is indeed more sensitive.
Sorry about my post not being organised but it's late, and so many thoughts are going through my mind, there's so much I want to write, give me more time and more miles!
Oh, yes, Zzoba, the black dials work great thanks! And the Chrono watch also comes in black which is a good thing.
Short shifter is a delight but requires a firm hand.
Pedal position is poor, worse than on 996, I cannot heel and toe as easily as before, it requires me to bend my ankle even more, but I will adjust.
Only niggle, the lumbar support on my seat doesn't work, it inflates but deflates as soon as I release the button. I have back problems so this is an issue. It works fine on passenger seat.
Apart from that, the buil quality is flawless as you would expect.
PCM is a grea toy, been playing with it all drive long, it's very instinctive to use, buttons are not too small and yes, they are a lot but each has its function.
It's a joy to use, really.
That's it for now my friends, loads of pics and a more detailed review to come,
Thanks for reading!
