Non-Bose 997 stereo upgrade
I posted this also on Rennlist.
I visited a local stereo shop which the local P-Car dealer recommended. I have a non-Bose 2006 C2 and wanted to leave a stock appearance, but improve the sound.
It looks like the only options are:
1) Use Factory PCM headunit and tap into the speaker outs and convert them to RCA's and use this to go to a new amp. Does anyone know if their is an outboard amp for the non-Bose system?
2) Replace the speakers with either Focal or JL audio 3 way separates. Any suggestions on which people prefer?
3) Add a single 4-5 channel amp up front (inputs from line level inputs) to power separates and sub. Most likely this will be a JL Audio 300/4
4) Get a custom built subwoofer box that will fit where the Bose system sits. Should be stealthy still. I will likely use 2 six inch JL (6w0) subs.
5) Still unsure how I will add the Ipod to the system.
Has anyone had any experience with using the stock PCM as the headunit, but doing something similar to what I have in mind? I am most curious on how they get to the speaker level outputs and if they are powered by a small amp, if that poses any problems/fault codes.
I tried using the search function, but the main threads are for a full front end replacement. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
