    BMC airfilter

    Hey there people,

    I've just got my brandnew 997S a couple of weeks ago after 3 months of long, long waiting . Can post some pix or give the specs on a next occasion ...

    Does anyone of you fellows has a brief instruction (workshop manual or similar) how to change the airfilter on a 997? Opening the aircleaner-housing seems not so easy as on my Boxster S!

    I appreciate a lot the forum and your help.

    First , disconnect the electrical wires from the air box.
    Then , pull the air box straight up and out( no bolts to remove )
    You will need a torx screwdriver (T-20 I think ) and remove about 7 or 8 screws to open the box and replace the filter .

    There are two rubber grommets that fit into holes in the chassis. They tend to come out with the box when you remove it.
    Be sure they are back in their holes before replacing the box. (The box has two pins underneath it which fit into the grommets)
    Make sure the filter does not have any excess oil on it, it may clog the air sensor( they recommend placing the filter on a towel overnight to soak out any excess )

    ( Btw: I did not remove the electrical wires . It is possible to pull up the box and turn it around , with a little maneuvering . Just be careful not to scratch to top of it anywhere.I put a towel over the top. But it is easier disconnect the wires which then allows you to take the whole box out of the car )

    Thanks a lot for your help jcs,

    it worked fine.

    As you said, it's much more easier with the wires disconnected, the switch unclipped and the small vacuum hose unplugged. This way you can work comfortably with the housing completely moved out of the motor compartment and it costs only a minute to do so.
