    Central locking

The central locking on the new 911 GT3 is a completely new development with higher load limits and improved suitability for track use. The new 911 GT3-specific central lock is identi- fied by a more robust wheel hub for a significantly improved camber stability and carrier bolts that are now fixed to the wheel hub (997 GT3 II: fastened to the brake chamber).

The significantly improved connection system is enhanced by larger bearing journals and larger wheel bearings that are now identical to the 911 GT3 Cup racing cars. The central screws have a friction-optimised trapezoidal screw thread and a thread runout with reduced notch effect. The new central screws can be recognised visually by the revised ring gear. The dimensions and the basic shape of the central screws have been retained and the teeth re-accented by distinctive spaces between them. The central screws are anodised black on the new 911 GT3 and have a black wheel hub cover with a silver-coloured “GT3” logo.

So we poor 997 owners have been guinea pigs. Just like the first generations of PCCB...

    sucks...

    Futch:
but i have a bigger problem on my 4.0, I destroyed my cup tyres on my last trackday and now I will drive it on slicks so I looked for supersports on 19' for road driving but they don't do that size! Damn! So I've ordered a set of Goodyear in slightly smaller width than OEM, should be interesting but mostly more fun to drive (less grip, earlier traction breakaway).

    Hey Futch, cancel those Goodyears.

I think the 4.0RS takes the same size as my GT2 ie the 325/30X19 ?

email tirerack.com in the US, pay by credit card and a set of spanking new 325/30X19 MPSS will arrive at your door a few days later and they are relatively inexpensive compared to buying MPSC in the UK Smiley

It seems that the 325 size is actually manufactured in the USA and is for some reason not for sale in Europe - heaven knows why but they are ZR rated and have EU markings so all legal etc...

Damn! Too late! My mechanic got me in the end a set of pilot sport 2 N rated and they're already on the car. But good to know for the future re the supersports. Very odd they have that size in the us but not in Europe.

    Thanks!
