Norbert Haug - it's time for a change

FINALLY, consequences have been taken by the Mercedes Management! http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/more-sports/norbert-haug-to-leave-mercedes-at-end-of-the-month/article6300395/

That decision was overdue, I'm wondering if MS will take over and therefore "pay back" to Nobbie Smiley

Re: Norbert Haug - it's time for a change

Still, Haug was / is quiet a personality in motorsports - he turned 60 though, so why not go into retirement ?

As to the rumours that MS would step in - this would be a real surprise to me. I could not imagine MS watching DTM and F1 just like that, though, he could start some competition with CH of the Red Bull, who shakes his leg faster during the race...

Re: Norbert Haug - it's time for a change

Very pitty that he's going. IMHO one of the most successfull german motorsport managers. Without him Mercedes Motorsport would be nothing in the last 20 years.

Re: Norbert Haug - it's time for a change

there may be health reason involved too but this may only be a bad rumor...

Re: Norbert Haug - it's time for a change

@jesse basically that's correct, he WAS an instituion in motorsports, but (same as MS) IMHO in the last years he "lost his spirit" and (as mentioned by @TEE) if the rumours are true and he has some health issues he should better retire get well soon and enjoy his life with his wife & family!

Anyway, would be interesting to get to know if Niki Lauda was part of that decision (as with MS earlyier that year)...

Re: Norbert Haug - it's time for a change

Comments I have seen from Lauda is that he was taken by surprise...

Re: Norbert Haug - it's time for a change

Haug is leaving on a low which I have a feeling he wouldn't have done at his own free will at the not so old age of 60.

Mercedes GP is far behind, in DTM the Mercedes cars were beaten by newcomers BMW and in GT racing the SLS had some results but it hasn't taken the world by surprise. Achievers like Haug, usually leave on a high. There must be other reasons

Re: Norbert Haug - it's time for a change

I think he tried to leave on a high for several years now...

Having worked with him and his team, I have many inside information I do not want to share. But trust me: he was never qualified to run a team. Almost all talented guys at Mercedes-Benz Motorsport left years ago, they can only win in DTM because they outsourced the teams and they do a good job despite the negative corporate influence.

I'm relieved, but a little nervous too.

I'd never disqualify a person which I've worked together on a contractual or whatever relation in the public (except for unethical / already public known facts)

Re: Norbert Haug - it's time for a change

It's the latter (already publicly known facts). There's tons of newspaper articles saying the same.

Those who work with me usually know that I say what I think has to be said, no matter what they want to hear. And of course, my choice of words in private is much more blunt.

Re: Norbert Haug - it's time for a change

Norbert  Haug accepts responsibility for Mercedes GP lack of success.
