    R8 test drive

    I had the opportunity to test a black R8 with R-tronic, here are some quick (and humble) comments, by comparing with my ex-C2S:
    R-tronic: I order a manual, but wanted to give a try - no, thanks, too brutal in city, automatic does not change when I would, now I understand why the consumption is lower than with the manual: in the city it selects the 6th gear when driving at 50 Km/h !! (normal mode)
    handling: I am not a pro, as many of you, but to me this car is glued to the road, the limits of the car are far away from mine...
    Noise: quiet inside, beautilul outside, does not need a PSE (as I had)
    Show: if you are looking for a car to be seen at, or to make envi, this is the one to buy...not really what I wanted but...
    Seats: perfect, but I did not find the memory store keys, maybe I was too busy...I would miss that
    Rear view: I ordered the parking sensors, a must...
    Oil temp: surprise, I think somebody mentionned it, it reached 125*C and I did a cool trip, never crossed the 100*C with my C2S. Frequent oil change will be necessary I guess (Castrol)
    I am waiting now for a second test with a manual gear box, and for my own R8 in 2008

    engine power, acceleration: linear, that's the word, , did not feel the push as in my old M5 (E39), or the magic above 6000 rpm with the C2S, but the speed is there ! Anyway, 2 quick pulses on the - paddle, from 6 to 4, and you're flying...

    Your drive impression almost mirrors mine two months ago...
    Oil temperature on my test R-Tronic R8 was also little bit high. But, on manual R8 it was 110C max.
    BTW, there are no memory with R8 standard seats, they are just electrical. If side bags are not important to you I can reccomend optional Bucket seats(but, they are expensive and with manual adjustment).

    R8 point of view :

    First of all, it would have been more intelligent for you to go in France to order one : In fact it is possible to order one to receive her in October.
    Moreover, I'm pretty sure you don't have received 5% rabat as I've negociated still at the beginning ....
    But nevermind ....

    About the car / It feels like completely sticked to the road that's true
    BUT It is definitively not the same as the C2S. I have also one and I can honnestly say that I will not change for an R8.
    The sport feeling is absent; it is really linear ; and I have felt that the performance is at most equal to C2S.
    Not so impressive.
    Moreover, price is really high.
    Conclusion : I have sold my C2S and on going to deal a 997 GT3.
    Same price even cheaper, and don't forget I will always see the R8 far away in my side mirrors lol
    But the design is really impressive. Not my choice but still a very very good choice.
    Have fun with your toy.
    Hope it will not be the same than RS4 cars, 40 % depreciation after 6 months

    Even on wet road or during rain Not likely with those Michelin Cups... Or you will like my friend end off the road in your 997GT3(he pushed it really hard on wet autobahn here in Croatia and BAM! 40000 Euro demage... He is in the hospital but, not in bad condition-broken leg)...

    I knew it. One of our German friends recognized it.

    But nevermind ....
    - did not try France, but for some reasons I should buy it in Lux; did not get 5% rebate, but 4...
    GT3: is it still produced ? Did not see any in Porsche Lux since months. Anyway, not a choice for me , pretty good for circuit, no for daily drive (in the rain as often here...). The TT could have been mine, but I like to change often. Btw, the long wait can have some avantages: if I am crazy enough, could swap R8 order to a R10, who knows ??
    Brakes: , strong, but less progressive than C2S (question of beeing used to ?)
    Depreciation: R8 is more exclusive, small production, we will see...
