    Re: Car Vandalised

Had that done to my first car 3 times in a row! If I ever caught them...

    Re: Car Vandalised

One phone call this morning and the car was collected by the Porsche Approved repairer (Selbys) who were extremely helpful. My going away on Friday to Austria so when I return I'm sure it'll all be sorted -Pounds500 in the bank for my excess!

    Re: Car Vandalised

boxsterboy, very saddened to hear about this. Thugs like that make me sick.

BTW I hope your no claims bonus is protected.

BTW, for those of you outside the UK, an "ASBO" is an anti-social behaviour order. Our PM Tony Blair believes that slapping a court order on a young thug is going to stop him from behaving in this criminal fashion. So far, ASBOs haven't worked.

Oxonian, I think you mean the 'evil eye' or 'nazar' rather than the 'blind eye'. I believe in it too. Sometimes, the gaze of jealous people really can jinx something (and sometimes they don't even realise that their jealousy has caused that result). I'm not into religion etc but I certainly believe in the evil eye.

    Yes it is thank god!

    Re: Car Vandalised

    V. sorry to hear that and it's good that you have your no claims protected! Also good to know that the police actually did something!
Hope your run of bad luck has come to an end!

    Re: Car Vandalised

    Boxsterboy,

We all feel your pain. It happened to me 2 weeks ago, in my office parking lot, in a nice neighborhood, in broad daylight. None of us understand these types of behaviors. But keep in mind that there is a Chinese saying that say "if no one is jealous of you, you are not of much substance."

People who vandalize will always live in fear because they know that someday, someone will do the same thing to them. That itself is a great punishment.

I chock it up as the maintenance cost of such a fine machine. I hope time will wash the pain away, like mine. Enjoy and drive the hell out of the car.

    Good luck.

    Re: Car Vandalised

sorry to hear of your bad luck. far too many scumbags in the uk... very sad minded people...

What you need a an alarm pager which pages you incase of an attack on your car... handy to have a shock sensor on your alarm..

they do ones which can page your mobile by either call or text...

So do I, but I think you'll find that a 'nazar' is a stone which protects you from these forces. A nazar or evil eye stone (turkish: nazar boncuğu) is an amulet from islamic mythology that protects against the evil eye. It consists of concentric circles (from inside to outside: dark blue, white, light blue, dark blue).

Maybe, boxterboy, you should get one to guard you against gazes of envy.

    Re: Car Vandalised

John H, I'm originally Muslim and speak 7 Asian and Middle Eastern languages! 'Nazar' in Urdu means literally 'sight' but is used to refer to the 'evil eye'. Arabs refer to the same concept.

As for the stone with the concentric circles which Turkish people use, that's bogus. It's sold to tourists in Istanbul!

No, when Muslim people want to counter the 'evil eye' they recite verses from the Qur'an such as verse 255 of Surah Baqarah known as the 'Throne Verse' or 'Ayat ul Kursi'. It protects a person from the affect of the evil eye.

I can explain much more about this if you're really interested.

Personally though, I gave up practising the rest of all that stuff...

    Re: Car Vandalised

Sorry to hear that. Very sad incident.
Yes, people are trying to look away when something happens, this is really something not understandable.
Somebody tried to steal our Cayenne Turbo in the Disneyland Paris parking lot, only around 100 meters away from the bus station and entrance. There were plenty of people there at around 6 pm and it happened around half an hour earlier.
Nobody really saw something or nobody wanted to see something.

It would have been enough to shout "what are you doing there" or to shout "hey", people wouldn't really need to go to the car and put themselves in danger. But no, nobody got involved.

And if you think that happens in England only: it happens here in Germany as well, especially now when envy has never been that strong due to the bad economic situation.

Good luck with your car, I hope they fix it well and that you start to forget about what happened.

    Re: Car Vandalised

I had the same experience 2 weeks ago although not as bad! Someone scratched my 997 on the roof quite bad! and I live in a quiet english village, I could have cried so I feel for you! Never let these morons spoil the fun of owning such a great car!

Its usually kids or just some one envy! Its funny I spent time in the states and when they see somebody driving a nice motor they say "look they must work hard e.t.c and deserve that car! well done buddy" where as in Britain they would say "look at that flash c***"

    Maybe just my opinion.

    Re: Car Vandalised

Totally agree Damian, the attitude in the UK is "If I can't have one of these, why should he?", followed by the, all too common, dragging of a key or a coin right along the side of your pride & joy.

I've had a few of these over the years and have come to the conclusion that it comes with the territory.

Whereas the attitude in many other countries is "If I work hard enough, maybe one day I could have one of these"

Sometimes it makes you ashamed to be British.

No, it is not because of your nationality or anything as RC pointed out. Here in Japan where you encounter less of violence you still experience vandalism against "nice" cars. There is just some portion of pathetic people in any population. So be proud of being a Brit and 911 owner.

    Re: Car Vandalised

boxsterboy, sorry to hear about this. nothing else to say on top of what others have said. at least it can be repaired to 'as new'.

I couldnt agree more.. my friend brought a seat ibiza 02 plate and not long after he had it got keyed on asda cark park, its just a normal car its only a 1.2 litre engine and he has that done at it...

When i see a porsche i just cant help but smile.

i've got no porsche but i hope i'll get one... a 944 turbo isnt out of my reach i may try to get one of theses, but my main goal in a 911 turbo!

that wide rear end and big chunky wing is enough to get your pusle racing before you've driven it! In fact if it doesnt make your pulse race then you need to see a doctor!

    Re: Car Vandalised

Sorry to hear and especially sad noone at least called the police via mobilephone.

There are still a few nice people around, I have to tell you!

    Take care...

    Re: Car Vandalised

Hearing about these incidents is so maddening.

Maybe you should stop shopping at Asda (or Morrisons or Somerfield) and start shopping in a better supermarket. I must say I've never had a problem parking in Waitrose, Tesco or Marks & Spencer car parks.

    Re: Car Vandalised

I'm very sorry to hear that. It would drive me crazy. But let me tell you, a CCTV'ed office car park isn't safe either. You then have to put up with those stupid co-workers who squeeze through between two cars and one of their shouldered bags scratches/dents the whole side of your car. Happened to my 987S last year

Nice neighbourhoods might have a reduced risk of vandalism but unfortunately no garantuee for safety. The only time I ever had one of my cars intentionally vandalized was when I parked my brandnew Audi cab in one of Munich's nicest residential area.. plenty of manor houses around. I made the mistake of leaving a bag of groceries on the passenger seat and someone cut through the roof to steal it.

Guess what I'm saying is: Try to do what you can to reduce the risk (i.e. take the Skoda for going to the movies) but don't kill yourself over it. There is no safe place for a nice car except your own private garage.

Sometimes I think of answering the question about what a Porsche costs along the lines of "List price plus options plus driver training plus repair costs and then some."

Hope your baby will get repaired soon.

    Re: Car Vandalised

    Totally agree ente.
i never use my 997s to go out to movies, dinner, skiing.i use it only when i make sure there is a safe place to park it.hotels with private parking and even some restaurants.
but i will never take(anymore) chances to leave the car in a public parking or just in the middle of any street(last year my 997s was stolen while i was having dinner in a restaurant).
I have a nissan micra for every day use.i park it anywhere.
