Evolution Air Intake Sys For 997

Probably has been asked earlier but dose anyone have experience with this Kit? Any pitfalls? Any warranty issues? And oh ya, does it "sound better". I've got PSE sport shifter and a bunch of other stuff but since it's air cleaner time (15,000 mls) I thught about this easy/fairly inexpensive add-on.

Re: Evolution Air Intake Sys For 997

This topic has been absolutely and completely beaten to death on every 997 forum in this universe. Please do some searching on the various forums, using whatever functions they may have.

We beg of you that another thread on this topic not be started within our lifetimes.

Re: Evolution Air Intake Sys For 997

    ...that wasn't entirely nice!

Re: Evolution Air Intake Sys For 997

I did not intend to be harsh in my response, but threads about intake systems usually become a free for all.

Unrealistic claims for power, knee-jerk naysayers, the inevitable comments that Porsche designed it right to begin with, some inept attempts at comedy and the like have all been said before, over and over again.

Everyone contemplating any type of simple modifications to their car should do some basic searching before posting, particularly if they have not been been following the various forums. The questions have almost always been answered before, multiple times.

The Evo airbox probably makes at most 5 hp for $600 plus installation. It will probably sound better than the stock system. I have one, in conjunction with numerous other bolt-on modifications. Uncertain if I would get one again.

My suggestion is to get a BMC replacement air filter, about $100+, if your stock air filter needs replacement.

Speaking as a knee-jerk naysayer who is also genetically predisposed to making inept attempts at comedy, I better understood and even sympathized with the reaction in your first post after reading your second post.

Re: Evolution Air Intake Sys For 997

I find the initial comment posted by MichaelL on this thread somewhat short-sited in view of my already futile attempt to collect background on this subject prior to posting my initial querie. MichaelL' second input was of some value which I do appreciate...thanks. Anyone else?

Re: Evolution Air Intake Sys For 997

Well, I got the Evo, new at half price on ebay, installed it and like the outcome. I can feel the difference, although slight without risking a reckless driving ticket and the sound beginning at around 5K is gratifying and a 6K is awesome!

Re: Evolution Air Intake Sys For 997

Good luck with the modification, $300 half price & self-installed is cost effective for an airbox.

There appear to be two better intake systems out there: Champion & Porsche X-51.

Champion makes a carbon fiber airbox for the 997. It is beautiful. It costs $3500! One quarter the cost of a supercharger that will generate 100+ rear wheel horsepower. It , so it is said, will make power from ram effect at high speed that cannot be duplicated on a chassis dyno.

The X-51 intake can be adapted to fit. Threads on other forums have indicated that the carbon fiber, twin snout airbox, inlet tube and throttle body can be retrofitted. It is necessary to modify the deck lid(template available) and make a spacer(PVC tube). Looks like $2000+ installed.

There are no claims for additional power or dyno results of improvements for either, that I know of.

Please let me apologize in advance for contributing to a thread that I said should not happen again in my lifetime.
