I do like that track even though its short and low speed

The variations in feel from all the chassis options are quite tricky to navigate when choosing a car: Should you go for an S with 18" or 19", standard dampers or PASM, LSD, or just an R...?

......it's amusing that all the video/TV auto journalists  think they have to drive like "boy racer/drifters".

I thought the same thing - he is drifting around the circuit driving one-handed ...

But worse still is that he was not even following the racing line through the corners ... Smiley

I think his conclusions were superficial ...

The Cayman R has 10PS more and 50 kg less (inc no airconditioning) for £5000 more.

IMO not a good choice but some may disagree ...

...Actually, IMO this was a good report - I do agree about what has been said about the burning rubber driving style, but, well, on the other hand - and we all do know the British and their way to being over-enthusiastic (...) -  one could hear words like "superb" (wow, what an outburst...!) and stuff and the recommendation at the end was clearly "10 to 15 % more over the S well spent"... At least, if a tree would fall on my car tomorrow while I would be sipping some tea or coffee elsewhere..., my first choice would be the Cayman R as a replacement (DD and track), of course with A/C and a radio as main options ...still, my car is in good health, so nothing I should be worried about...hmmm, really...???

    +1

I'm also very annoyed when a manufacturer deletes A/C, Xenon, Radio/CD and calls it lightweight. It should be achieved without deleting essential options. Put clever sports seat, lighter rims, titanium exhaust, carbon door inserts, thinner glass THEN call it lightweight.

That's a very nice looking Cayman!

    Re: Cayman S v's Cayman R

I love it, but i am still wishing for a more hardcore model deserving the R.

I want GT3 engine, steering wheel, NO OPTIONS, manual windows and roll cage. I guess call it RS if you must. I swear there's a market for it if not the hardcore NoS crowd alone.

indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine..  I happen to like both :)

Wouldn't we all love it, but Porsche won't do it. As Autocar said in the Cayman R article what is so frustrating about the Cayman is Porsche won't give it sufficient power to show it's full potential by making it faster than a 911, which would be sacrilegious in Stuttgart's tunnel visioned policy belief that "911 must be best". Why the two model ranges can't overlap is beyond me as they are different products appealing to different people. Smiley

Ah now that's the difficult question and I'm not sure we got it right with our Cayman S. We've got 18" wheels and standard suspension, (+LSD) whilst the handling is superb, whereas PASM could feel that little bit artificial somehow, the ride is quite hard on the standard springs, and we do miss the additional comfort of the PASM set up. SWMBO finds it quite uncomfortable on long distances. Thank goodness we didn't go for 19" wheels and no PASM!

If we could retrofit PASM we probably would.

I agree - £5k for a chipped engine, a £740 LSD, an ungainly rear spoiler, and no aircon or radio doesn't represent very good value to me either, somehow!

Bilstein now do the B16 Damptronic for the Cayman but my limited research to date suggests its about the same as standard passive springs but with a 25mm drop in ride height.  I need to find out more, especially on how the steering and handling are affected but when mine is paid off next year I'm wondering whether to go for it with a sports exhaust as well.Smiley

Anyway, I am sure there are other damper options that mimic the PASM settings
