    More questions on PSE

I've been reading about the PSE modifications (vacuum hose disconnection and electrical disconnection). These are the links I've been reading:

    http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php?Cat...true#Post133987
    http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=151382&an=0&page=21#151382

I was hoping some of you could help by answering the following questions:

    1) If I do the electrical disconnection, will the DME know that the electrical connector has been disconnected at all? In other words, although I will reconnect the electrical connector whenever the car goes to an OPC for a service etc when the OPC connects the car to the diagnostic computer, will the OPC be able to find out that the electrical connector was previously disconnected? I wouldn't want the OPC to use it as an excuse for claiming my warranty is void. The DME must surely 'realise' that the electrical connector was disconnected because the DME is responsible for supplying power to the PSE.

    2) Is it true (what bluelines said) that the electrical disconnection method is less loud than the vacuum hose disconnection?

    3) If either modification is done (and the car has sport chrono installed), is there still any difference in sound/loudness when the sport chrono is turned on or off? Or is it just the natural sound difference because the car is just being revved more when sport chrono is on?

    4) How many km did it take for the PSE on your car to 'burn in'? Did you need to rev it at high revs at all? After how many km did you find that the PSE started to get louder?

Thanks guys. Hope you can help.

    Re: More questions on PSE

I have no idea about the answers to your questions sorry easy.

But my advice is try your car with the factory setting.
I used to have the mod on my 996 and it was nice indeed but the cutoff was not dependant on the DME (it was only speed dependant).

Now, with the DME, I'm not sure what it does so I'd rather not touch it.

I've mentionned it before, but for example, when heel and toeing in sport mode, there's no cutoff! When accelerating gently, there's no cutoff!

It's as if the DME works out what kinf of driving style you're in and adapts the PSE setting accordingly.

I haven't mentionned it but the most amazing thing is, when I'm driving on the track, really aggressive, the PSE has no cutoff in sport mode! Great stuff!

But indeed, in town, it cuts off between roughly 40 to 80 kmh, no bid deal at all once you're used to it.

And cruising or long distance driving with PSE on is out of the question for me, I like it off for normal driving.

I'm still planning to bring the car in April so far, so you'll see for yourself.

I can't do the mod anyway bc I can't find the plug in the engine bay!

    Sorry for not helping much.

    Re: More questions on PSE

Thanks Fanch. You made some good points for not doing the mod and for keeping the ability to choose when to have PSE on or off.

As for me, I want to enjoy the sound of the PSE without sport chrono ON. In my test drives, I found sport chrono is great for driving in a very sporty way. But sometimes, you just want to cruise around smoothly without the twitchiness/edginess of sport chrono. So I am trying to find a way to keep PSE ON without putting sport chrono ON. I think the mod (both vacuum hose disconnection and electrical disconnection) are the only ways to do this.

I know you have the X51 Carrera S powerkit so your vacuum hoses must be a little bit different.

By the way, re: -20mm, I ordered my 997S with -20mm but I still want to make sure it is the right choice for me so I am really looking forward to taking a ride in your car in April. Should be fun - plus we can have a few beers!

    Cheers,
    ML

It is possible for the DME to know, electrically, that this connector was disconnected. Whether the sw engineers decided this was important to recognize and record is something that we would have to ask a Porsche technician for the answer.

I had both modifications done and I really couldn't tell the difference.

In my opinion, the PSE sounds better with the "always on" modification together with the sport chrono button turned on. And it has a lot to do with the gas pedal->throttle difference that sport chrono provides. It just sounds clearer and nicer.

I've had my PSE for almost a year now and it's difficult for me to tell the difference in sound.

    Re: More questions on PSE

Are you maybe not taking this too far?
It is a simple mod... nothing can go wrong with your engine, nor could P say that the mod has done damage to your car.
My own official P garage has done the mod to my car, insisting it is only a very very light mod that doesn t affect anything that' s why they agreed to do it.
The only problem would be with the Police because of too much noise.
If you have a switch installed, ( look a some previous posts) you will be able to have all combinations, from normal stock to PSE on with Sports off....
