    Question about 997 GT3 suspension/alignment adjustments...

Hey guys, here is a quote from porsche's website about some setup changes you can make to the GT3...

    Quote:
"The new 911 GT3 also has a number of suspension setup options. Ride height, camber, toe angle and anti-roll bar settings can all be adjusted to achieve the desired handling characteristics."

So I know the 997 GT3 comes with the PASM struts, there are just two settings right, they only adjust dampening settings right? Anyone know how the two settings compare to the standard 997S's PASM system (as far as how dampened they are). The ride height can actually be adjusted? I wouldnt think so - but oh well. Anyone know how much stiffer the spring rates are wiht the GT3 compared to the 997S ?

Ok, now about the alignment, of course every car has a degree of adjustability here, but according to that porsche quote the GT3 should have a good bit of adjustability. Concerning camber, does anyone know what the factory specs are? Also, what sort of range should be seen? And, is it further adjusted by camber plates on the top of the struts? Or just an eccentric camber bolt from the hub to strut?

Finally, about the swaybars, are both the front and rear bar adjustable? Anyone know how many adjustment options.

Ok, well I guess I wonder, do any of you guys mess with any of this? I know for autocross/track application it maybe beneficial to fine tune some of this (depending on how it drives from the factory, of course) if the car has the ability to do so...

    Anyway, thanks for reading !

ps. What color do you guys think is better: White or Red... I think both look great... well actually many colors look good with the GT3... hard decision

    Re: Question about 997 GT3 suspension/alignment adjustments...

Ride height is manually adjustable, since the GT3 comes with threaded body coilovers. The damping funtion is controlled by PASM, but the height is set manually. You need to do a new alignment/corner balance when you change ride height, since it will affect camber and toe also...

GT3's have always had front & rear adjustable swaybars. I think there are 4 or 5 settings on each bar.

The range of alignment adjustment should be ample for use with either a street setup or a fairly aggressive track setup with DOT slicks.

The RS has an even greater degree of adjustability, for use with real (not street legal) slicks...

5 at the front, 3 at the back on the 997 gen cars.

    Re: Question about 997 GT3 suspension/alignment adjustments.

Ok, I didnt know you could set the perches on the stock GT3 suspension, I understand thats a manual adjustment. Well - looks like I need to figure out where to do all of this at a race shop.

Anyone know factory specs for camber? I am thinking something like -2.5 or so in the fronts might be appropriate from what I have read. I dont want the pilot sport cups to end up like the PS2's that are on my dads 997S right now, the outside shoulders delaminated a lot and show some cord (from mid-ohio trackday).

    Re: Question about 997 GT3 suspension/alignment adjustments.

The factory specs are for street use and will be -1 degree at most. For MPSC's on the track, you probably want close to -3 degrees.

You will want to consult some track drivers and race shops for best alignment info. The factory stuff will not be helpful (stock is for street and factory racecars have much stiffer springs).

You might want to ask on Rennlist's GT3 board - lots of trackers there...

    Re: Question about 997 GT3 suspension/alignment adjustments.

^ yeah I agree, the factory spec is gonna be a bad idea for the track, I was just curious what it was for the GT3.

I have seen info on rennlist about alignment settings for the GT3. Looks like guys like -2.5 to -3.5 front and a slight balance to about .25 less negative in the rears. I dont want to mess with toe at all due to the accelerated wear associated with it.

    Re: Question about 997 GT3 suspension/alignment adjustments.

Factory specs on mine was -1*2" at the front and -1* at the rear.

Without any camber plate you can go at -1*5" on both axles.

For 50% street and 50% track use you shouldn't go less then -2*5" at the front and 2* at the back.

If you use the car with slicks you should put, with the appropriate setup, in the range of -5*/-6* at the front and slightly less at the rear.

What color you should go for? White, off course!!

    Re: Question about 997 GT3 suspension/alignment adjustments.

So you need camber plates to get past -1.5 on the 997 GT3?

Acutally, Max said -1 degree and 5 minutes which is only -1.083 degrees (60 minutes in a degree). That is surprising to me too...

I'm guessing that the "camber plates" referred to are just the flat shims fitted into the lower suspension control arms, which should be reasonably cheap to buy and easy to install and remove, as required.

    Re: Question about 997 GT3 suspension/alignment adjustments.

Ok, so stock hardware on the GT3 isnt as adjustable as I though, you need to have a "camber plate" to get the -2.5 > setting.

    Re: Question about 997 GT3 suspension/alignment adjustments.

    Here are the data

    Front
    toe-in +6'(+/-2')
    camber -1*20(+/-5')

    Rear
    toe-in +13'(+/-5')
    camber -2*(+/-5')

    Anti roll bar
    front 5 positions
    rear 3 positions

Carrera series 911s use spring rates in the low 30 Nm range up front and in the mid 60 Nm at the rear.
Gt3 has 45 Nm springs in front and 105 Nm coils at the rear.

Gt3 Cup Race has 240 Nm front and 260 Nm on rear

Are these the GT3 Race alignment? on stock suspension?

Andrea, your numbers show the factory alignment for the 997 GT3 MKI. You don't want to race with a camber of only - 1° 20' at the front wheels Smiley
