Valentino Rossi caught lapping in a 2004 Ferrari F1

After repeated Luca Di Montezemolo's invitations to ride the Ferrari F1 to Rossi, now Rossi has been caught at a Italian track, lapping with the 2004 Ferrari F1! but the surprising thing was that it wasn't a press or publicity stunt, its was done with some secrecy. Rossi races from time to time, his motorcycling carrer permiting, in rallies with surprising results. Can you imagine Rossi jumping to F1? he doesn't have to win, just participating and performing decently would be quite profitable for the F1 circus

Can younmagine Schummi trying to ride Rossi's MotoGP?

BTW, the Imola GP is this Sunday the sad note is that its 10 years since Senna's death at Imola

Re: Valentino Rossi caught lapping in a 2004 Ferrari F1

highly interesting. there have always been rumours that rossi might test a F1 -- a BAR-Honda, though. but since he left honda... and yamaha is not connected to any F1 team...

ecclestone recently stated that rossi would be great for the F1 -- i personally think that this guy is fast on, in and with everything.

    any info concerning his laptime?

Re: Valentino Rossi caught lapping in a 2004 Ferrari F1

Sorry, no lap times since it was done very secretly, thats what surprised me caught my attention since that shows differenent intentions than the typical publicity press stunt. It was on the news channel here that shows the F1 races and only showed some spy video shots of it.

yes this definetly didn't seem to be the usual "please the sponsors"-event!!! if rossi does win the moto-GP this year with yamaha, what other goals could he have than becoming F1 world champion with ferrari?

Re: Valentino Rossi caught lapping in a 2004 Ferrari F1

His a master riding any bike from what we saw this Sunday(poor Biaggi), but riding a F1 is another story.

    This guy is making history.

Re: Valentino Rossi caught lapping in a 2004 Ferrari F1

Yes, I agree with you guys, this guys is one of those few born with outstanding talent for motorsport. He has already dominated the hardest and most challenging vehicle of all motorsport competition, the 500cc/MotoGP bikes, now out of boredom decides to make things a bit more challenging by moving over to the Yamaha M1 bike which last year gave a pathetic act in MotoGP and would make a great handicap to spice things up, and still wins in the very first race last weekend by downright out-ridding all the other experienced ridders with their superior Hondas.

He began in world championship as a rookie 17year old kid in 125cc, he soon won that a year after and moved to 250cc, made sub-champion the first year and won the second year, and already made the jump to 500cc, made sub-champion the first year and next year became champion, then the 500cc class changed MotoGP two years ago and continued dominating and winning by far those two years too. If he wins this year MotoGP with a Yamaha whats left for him to do? he said he will run only 2 more years in MotoGP and then think about his future, maybe change to F1 and put up a good show for a rookie? that would be such a Valentino thing to do BTW he finished 2* overall I believe in the 2003 Monza Rally series with the Toyota Coralla WRC car that he participated in just for fun

Did you guys know that this guy has won 48% of the the world championship races he ever participated in since his start in 125cc class as a kid? like I said, this guy has so much natural talent he can do anything given just a little experience.

Re: Laptime -- Valentino Rossi caught...

according to a rumour on ferrariownersclub.co.uk rossi's fiorano laptime was 62 secs, 6 secs off the lap record.

    read it here:

Re: Laptime -- Valentino Rossi caught...

    Great job zzboba!
Now, can some one tell me if 6 secs of the record in his first 20 laps in an F1 is good or bad? how can we compare?

Re: Laptime -- Valentino Rossi caught...

Valentino Rossi less 4 seconds slower than record of Michael Schumacher.

There is an article on Autosport's website

It has a different time than the one quoted by zzboba.

    Quote:
Rossi is reported to have made a huge impression in lapping the track in 59.0s - that's only three seconds off Michael Schumacher's record.

Re: There is an article on Autosport's website

They say 3 secs off shummi's time here too. 3 secs in his first time in a mighty F1 in just 20 laps seems crazy to me

Re: There is an article on Autosport's website

Any news on Jeff Gordon's Williams test?

Re: Valentino Rossi caught lapping in a 2004 Ferrari F1

    Amazing.....just amazing......

Those lap times as almost unveleiveable, specially considering how complex is an F1

Valentino is an extreme Natural Talent

I'm shure we would all like very much seing him in a F1 Ferrari in a few years .........specially compitting with my "beloved" Fernando Alonso!

Do you mean Scott Dixons Williams test or is Jeff Gordon testing for them as well?

    Here's Dixons opinion on F1, from f1-live.com:

The real pain for Dixon came in his neck, where the driver experienced the tremendous G forces in an F1 car, with its tremendous acceleration, responsive corner and rapid deceleration when he applied the brakes. "It's huge," Dixon said. "I lasted about three runs before my neck was done. You just can't hold it up. The acceleration isn't too bad because your head is resting most of the time, but the G forces turning and the braking in the braking zone, your head goes down and you have to slowly bring it up. The forces are way more than what we get."

According to Juan Pablo Montoya it is the last 2-3 seconds in a laptime that separates the boys from the men so to speak.

With todays F1 cars it is quite easy for a "rookie" to get within 5-6 seconds of a F1 driver, but it's when you get down to 2-3 seconds a lap that things get difficult.

Having said that, Rossi looks like a guy who will be good at anything he does, and I wouldn't mind seeing him in F1 some day.

Re: There is an article on Autosport's website

yes the 3 sec difference seerms to be correct, even my "6 sec"-source ferrariownersclub.co.uk have altered the time difference from 6 to 3 secs in the meantime!

i've also heard that scuderia test driver luciano burti was slower than rossi. same day, same track.

    Amazing

Re: There is an article on Autosport's website

    temm,
In addition to Scott Dixon, apparently Williams invited Gordon back to test once again.

This is why I like the Michelin Cup of Champions race every year, where three racers from each country participate in a rally type course: a rally driver, a road course driver, and a motorcyclist. Typically the F1 drivers don't too well!

Maybe because the current ones suck?
It's pathetic, Schumacher is regarded as an F1-messiah, but back in the old days he was nothing, compared to Senna, Prost, Mansell and the rest of the gang..

That is not true. 10 years ago, Schumacher was tearing up the F1 calendar against Senna (Schumacher won the first two races and was second behind Senna in the third race at Imola when Senna crashed - leaving first place to Schumacher). And Schumacher has only improved over the last 10 yrs. To say modern F1 drivers suck is really ignorant.

Re: There is an article on Autosport's website

BTW guys, don't miss next weekend's Spanish MotoGP at Jerez, its the world's party of motorcycling and mecca GP. There will be hundreds of thounsands of sportbike enthusiasts there, more than any other motorcycling race in the world. I wish I could go but can't get away I know of many people who are going in their bikes from here all the way to the other corner of Spain for the GP

And specially worth while to see Rossi at the MotoGP race (14:00 Sunday 2th May - Madrid time) will put up quite a ridding show and as we watch him how he defies physics
