    BMW X6M Individual Program

Unbelievable. I just got an email back from BMW Canada

    Hi Nick,

Unfortunately the Individual program is not available for North American X5 M and X6 M vehicles from the factory.  The plant has not conducted the necessary testing to offer it for our market.  The only components available are the BMW Individual wood trims.  However, the paint and upholsteries are not possible.  The cost to conduct the testing is cost prohibitive for just one vehicle.  I’d like to offer you better news, but at this time, there’s no realistic solution for an X6 M to be customized in any way.

    Best Regards,

    Jeremy

Do BMW North America want to do business or not? Last I check, BMW NA is the largest division of BMW doing the most business, and they are excluding Individual Program for NA market?

I was only asking for Individual Color Ruby Black, which is offered on the regular X6s, Individual Leather in Slate, which is offered in Germany and many other countries. Ventilated seats, which is an option for X6M in the USA.

It's not like I am asking to have M3 seats or M5 engine, everything I asked for ARE in the parts bin in Spartanburg, OK so the bumpers are different on X6M and maybe the robots are too stupid to paint a different bumpers and require further testing, but my god, Germany is left hand drive, same as North America, not like the leather dash is going in differently, hell installing the ventilated seats for US-market cars ARE tested, and the only difference between US cars and Canada cars are a different markings on the speedo and a stronger bumper in Canadian cars.

O well, I guess I will settle for their 'standard' Carbon Black exterior and Black leather..........

This does makes me appreciate Porsche COMPLICATED options ordering checklist, it sure does make customizing a car easier.

    Re: BMW X6M Individual Program

all bmw's that are produced in the USA have far less options available than the models that are destined for european markets. it is beyond me as well. check the german configurator and you will find many more details you can choose from than in the usa. especially when it comes to the more refined and costly pieces.

    Re: BMW X6M Individual Program

    BMW a German company.

Germany has much more customizing options.

    Germany communicate in German.

I think I am going to brush up my German and send them another email in German, just to see if that makes any difference.

    Haha.

Actually, don't check it. It'll only frustrate you further.

Was car shopping a bit today and would love the Passat CC in diesel but noooo, not here.

Or the sweet little BMW 1 hatch that is available in the ROW but noooo, not here either.

The list goes on and on SmileySmileySmiley

    Re: BMW X6M Individual Program

NA may be the largest market for BMW but I would wager that the majority of buyers in NA are not as discerning when it comes to those little refinements you are talking about. They are probably more likely to buy straight off the showroom floor rather than customize. Because i'm sure if BMW saw it as a major profit opportunity to offer the individual program in NA, they would do so.

    Re: BMW X6M Individual Program

yup, agree. i think that american consumer behaviour is very different than that in europe. especially germany.

    Re: BMW X6M Individual Program

We were never even given a choice to start with. The only Individual stuff we get are their prepackaged cars with useless options or colors, or just the useless options like 'wood trims'. Of course it's not going to sell. But if they provide the regular Individual catalog instead, they would surely get more interest than those 'prepackaged' ones.

Last year I had to go Individual and BMW Canada HQ again when I want Aluminum trim in my X5. Only the ugly wood were available in Canada and no piano wood either. But the aluminum trim were available in USA and rest of the world.

Those aluminum trim is still not on the official ordering option list here in Canada for the 11 model. Unbelievable.

    Re: BMW X6M Individual Program

yeah, those 'packages' are silly. but somehow even mercedes does them for the US market. again consumer behaviour related.

i guess they think they rae making it easier for the common man to configure a car. absolute nighmare for us enthusiasts though...

I Think thats a big part of it, since they sell so many cars in NA it would take more time to get all the cars in diferent spec so they just produce a bunch of different pre made combinations and just ship them faster. If they offered individual program then it would take a lot longer to get the cars to the costumers. Also its a matter of the consumerism on the US society, its a market that wants things "now!" and most of them are not willing to wait for delivery times, which are a lot longer than those in europe or asia

    Re: BMW X6M Individual Program

Update: BMW Canada just got back to me, still no go for the slate leather nor ruby black exterior, but they will give me ventilated seats in black.

Not going to fight them anymore, I will take that as a concession from them. So I have just finalized the order for a carbon black with black interior, build slot in May and car delivery in June, and I even got a slight discount from them for all the hoops I had to jump through, 4%, not much but it's something.

Could have take delivery of one today and steal RC's thunder as there is one carbon black with black interior sitting in the lot, but that one has the regular sports seats and dvd player, which I don't want.

So now the waiting game begins............

    Re: BMW X6M Individual Program

Carbon black is really nice, it has a slight blueish tint in sunlight, one of the best colors available from any manufacturer.

    Re: BMW X6M Individual Program

You'll love it. And those ventilated seats are a good addition in a black / black

Haha, tell me about it, my 997 Turbo is in midnight blue and my X5 is in Monaco Blue, so basically 3 different shades of the same color.
