    Re: My R8 short review

Thanks for the great review Ron! Questions (1) at what rpm do you feel the power come on (2) is it as fast as a 997S? (3) does the car feel tight overall i.e. like Porsche (4) does the car feel light, medium, or slightly on the heavy side?

Mine is due in August with rtronic. I am a little concerned with the small rtronic problems that i have ready about.

Regarding wife, buy her a nice diamond or gift before you pick up your car then you will have no compalint. It works for me. She is too busy with her diamond to be lecturing you.

@Ron: thanks for the honest review It made very interesting reading.

It made me glad with my previous decision not to wait for a R8 since I needed more luggage space and (occasional) rear seats...

@Nick: you know of no practical sports car? Perhaps you're right but a 911, the new Maserati Gran Turismo, a Jaguar XKR and the AM Vantage are pretty good compromises...but they are compromises nonetheless. Having said that, you'd be surprised how much grocery shopping/luggage I manage to fit into my 911.

I guess the Panamera and AM Rapide will accommodate more passengers and luggage but they aren't real sports cars though...

If one needs genuine 4/5 seaters with room for a proper suitcase, then BMW M, big MB AMG or Audi RS cars are the only way to go...

Everything is relative. My point is a sport car is not intended to be anything other than a performance car. Sure there will be occasions when you can store small luggage and/or groceries but that is the exception.

One of the best sport cars in the world is the CGT. Yet an owner posted sometime ago that when he and his wife wanted to take a long trip, it required him to have another person follow him in another car with his luggage.

As far as children our concerned, most have to be very small to fit comfortably in the back seat. They invariable sit below the window line and cannot see a thing especially if they belted.

    Re: My R8 short review

    Good advice tony2006 .

    1) I personally think you have power at every range but at 3k it surges.

    2) R8 is really fast compare to 997S straight line may be not but in turns I don't believe 997S would have a chance although 997S is a fine car by all means. I personally haven't compare the 2 but based on fifth gear C4 and R8 in turns and twists 997S 4 fell behind R8 but straight line beat the R8 by few yards.

    3) The car is extremely solid very tight no squeeking or ratteling it just feels very very good.

    4) It feels light due to mid-engine setup I would say. until I got into my buddy's C6 that the R8 felt heavy .

As kreso mentioned before, as a whole package nobody can beat R8.

Ouch! That was a kick below the belt, wouldn't you say?

Not if you want one of the best handling cars on the market, that can keep up with an R8 in a straight line AND fit the whole family without giving you a hernia while trying to stuff the kids into the backseat of a two-door sportscar

    Re: My R8 short review

I drove new M3 Coupe temm and IMHO it is NOT one of the best handling cars on the market. Better in handling area are:
    Audi R8
    Porsche Boxster S
    Porsche Cayman S
    Porsche 997 series(all models)
...and I did even mentioned handling king like 430 Scuderia.

    Re: My R8 short review

Ron, about that Cadillac. Specs are impressive with a supercharged V8 with 550hp/tq and a 6 speed transmission. However I heard that the handling of those CTS's is terrible!! Did they do anything about that for this new version coming out?

I agree Kreso. If I don't get the R8, I would get the Cayman S.

Waiting on reviews and test drives.

    Thank you Kreso
Next time you can just put my name instead of "M3 fans" since I'm apparently the only one who would even remotely consider buying one

One note for all you ignorant Beemer haters who can't tell the difference, the M3 in this test was on winterwheels/tires (245/40-18).

Anyway, back to Ron and his R8, we want a video Ron

You are not alone!!! Always been a fan. Owned a SMGII E46 coupe before my TipS 997 C4S (yeah I know) and I miss my M3 dearly. I think M3 was the car that I had the most fun in so far.

Fully agree. Had a 997S before, and a M5 E39 some years ago,the M5 had a lot of torque and gave the same impression as the C6 I guess, the R8 is more linear but look into your mirror, where are they ?

I had an E46 M3 for 3 years before my 911 and was number 1 on the list at my dealer to buy the new one before I bought my 997S. I loved that car, but it either need more power, or less weight.

    Re: My R8 short review

In the US, the M3 is not well considered. It is seen as a young kid toy that he can afford while still living with his parents.

    Re: My R8 short review

Enjoy..you'll either get over the kid issue
or you will sell it. IMHO that would be a mistake.

Power..there are solutions for that..then the kids
won't be able to pry it away from you....Ha!
