    TPMS fault

    Has anybody had this happen? TPMS on my GT3 says my tires are underinflated. That big red apostrophe shows on the center dial and the image of a tire.

    Problem: TPMS reports tire pressures that are several degrees lower than actual, as measured by the manual gauge provided by Porsche. My tires are actually inflated over the recommened 29/33 for the GT3.

    I did change from Cup tires to PS2s. Is TPMS sensing that PS2s should have more pressure than cup tires? Everything worked fine for a week with the new tires, then suddenly this fault appeared.

    In any case, TPMS and the manual gauge do not agree.

    Did you reset the TPMS, so that it can learn the new tires?

    I have the same problem as you on my GT3. My TPMS reads consistently 0.3 bar below "real" pressure on all 4 wheels as measured (and cross referenced)by external gauges. I have done a reset but that has not fixed things. I hear it is a common problem.

    To do the reset, get into the TPC menu in the onboard computer(OBC). Reselect the size and type of your tires. You will get a "Process Complete" message in the OBC. Then, when you run the car, you will get a message of "TPC Inactive - system learning" in the OBC. This latter process takes place only when the car is being driven. (From pages 109 - 115, owner's manual, 2006 model year).

    My dealer says to put in key so that TPMS shows on the onboard computer, fill tires until TPMS is happy, then drive the car for 20-30 miles to reset. My dealer says TPMS (contrary to what I've read here) does measure accurately. It just needs time to adjust. We'll see.

    To get TPMS happy I have to overfill by 4psi. It just doesn't seem like a good solution.

    I've seen a lot of posts on TPMS but not many ever report that TPMS measures accurately - usually 4 psi lower than accurate manual gauge. So if you know that going in at least you can tell if the pressures are down based on relative changes reported by TPMS.

    If you reset the TPMS on the onboard computer, does the fault go away, and does it keep coming back? Do you have to continually reset the thing?

    TPMS reports accurately once you have gotten up to operating temperatures on the tires, which is usually after 5-10 minutes of driving, at most. I get the low readings when I start up the car but they move up to the expected setting once the tires warm up.

    By the way, before starting the car, do a check on the on-board computer to see if the tires are under or overinflated. This is usually pretty accurate. You can't access these readings once you have started the car.

    My TMPS has always been right on the mark (verified with digital and analog gauges) since day one, hot or cold. In fact I now use the delta reading inside the RDK menu to inflate my tires easily and when ever I want, hot or cold.

    I reset TPMS to "Summer Tires" and got a message that TPMS would be inactive while it learned the new settings. After about 5-10 miles, the TPMS fault went away. So it's working again. I just needed to reset the onboard computer, as an earlier post in this thread suggests.
