Several publications puplished times of 3.9 for the 993 turbo and there were a few similar times (including a 3.8 sec time with a tiptronic 996 turbo from motortrend), so i don't think that 3.7 is out of the question, as long as there are really good conditions to create them in.

0 to 60 mph and 0 to 100 kmh
Not that standing start times are very significant, we still heavily base our judgement on them.
Firstly, in which mag did you read that the 993 turbo does 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 secs.
Condidering the factory quotes 0 to 100 kmh in 4.5 secs, I find it hard to believe, even for the last 450 hp edition.
Now also,
100 kmh coresponds to 62 mph, some manufacturers quote up to almost half a second between the 0 to 60 and the 0 to 62! Don't you find that a bit over rated guys? I mean, that's only 3 kmh!

The only logical expanation would be shifting a gear in that 2mph window between 60mph and 62mph(or 100kmh).

Stock 993 Turbos are very quick. Its not speculation but fact that several Mags got times of 3.7 seconds to 60mph. Just a couple I found without diving into the library, Car and driver 7/95 issue (96 turbo 3.7 with 12.3 1/4 mile time). Autoweek in 95 also hit 3.7 0-60. Car and driver in 1997 timed a U.S spec Turbo S(424HP) at 3.7 12.2 1/4 mile. I believe R&T did a test that timed a Turbo S and a 959. The Turbo S (U.S spec) got a 3.6 0-60. The 993 Turbos are a .1 0r .2 of a second quicker to 60 than the stock 996 Turbo. My guess is the gears are the factor.
