    356 Speedster (1958)

It's been a week of Porsche bookends for me. I have taken delivery of my first electric Porsche (Taycan Turbo S) and gone right back to the origins by identifying a 356 Speedster in California to bring back to the UK. More on the Taycan in the appropriate thread in due course once I have had enough seat time in it.  Here are some photos of the Speedster from the consultant who identified the car and went to inspect it. It's going to be an exciting journey getting the car shipped here ( 8 to 12 weeks or so) and then deciding how to get it in tip top condition once it is here ( won't need much as it is in great shape already and importantly with a matching numbers engine and chassis).

I prefer the earlier pre A models without the big US bumpers but this is a great place to start my 356 journey. Getting pre A's with matching numbers engine, chassis, and body panels is far from easy and even more expensive!

What a stunning beauty ! Looks like she’s in great shape too, congrats cray !

    Re: 356 Speedster (1958)

as you are located in the UK definitely give Tuthill a thought for restoration and any other work you have in mind.

Speed has never killed anyone, suddenly becoming stationary... That's what gets you.

    Re: 356 Speedster (1958)

then there is Early911s in Germany who do outstanding ng work as well....they bring the cars vback to new original factory condition.

I did my rally car at Tuthill and my Targa at Early911s so speak from personal experience.

Thanks - I know the Tuthill guys well - in fact I was there 10 days ago. They also do Singer maintenance now in the UK.

Not sure why we need newer cars when we see pictures like that. Stunning!

With the risk of sounding like a teenage girl: OMG! Lovely to see some absolute classics on rennteam lately (together with Grant's '73 911)!
Looking forward to reading your impressions on the speedster, Cray! Including lots of pictures of course! indecision

I came to that conclusion independently. 992 is going in a direction I am not ready to accept.

    What a beautiful car! kiss

Isn’t it astounding how excited we get about a 60 year old vehicle...

    Re: 356 Speedster (1958)

Well, my last 911 was a 991.2...and I don't really miss it, even if it was a great car.

Still waiting for that 960...maybe once Porsche and Lambo are under one "roof".

    Re: 356 Speedster (1958)

Update. The car has still not left California as customs are too busy to process paperwork/ Covid delays mail. In the meantime I have bought an even more beautiful 1956 one without the US bumper overriders  in white with red leather that is already fully restored to concours standard  angel. Photos in due course.

    Re: 356 Speedster (1958)

Can’t wait to see that! Congrats cray!

I wish it had a 4 Cam engine - that would be 2.5x the price. I will buy a 4 Cam eventually as part of the 356 "set". Photos may be a while given Covid etc, but they will come!

    Re: 356 Speedster (1958)

    Haha first world problem

I buy a car. It takes too long to get to me. I just go buy a second car instead.

Would you look for a car that originally had a 4-cam motor or add one to a car that came with a standard motor?  I imagine the number of original cars is tiny, no?

Must be difficult to source an engine - they don’t share any parts with the standard motor, do they?
