Red Alert, two vehicle distribution bulletins!!!

Just spec'ed out my TT at the dealer and on Friday. During the process they showed me two vehicle distribution bulletins dated Aug 2 2006.

The first one reads: "Commencing with the factory shutdown (August 7-25) Option X54 (chrome stainless steel tailpipes) will be standard equipment on 911 Turbo models."

The second one says: "Effective immediately, option XCZ - Sport Shifter, is no longer available for factory installation. This option will be removed from all stock orders which are in a changable status. Existing customer orders will not be effected. Sport Shifter will continue to be available through Tequipment.

The dealer quoted $915 installed for the sport shifter.

I'm not too keen on having to rip out the leather center console interior to do the install at the dealer? Would you be worried too??

Re: Red Alert, two vehicle distribution bulletins!!!

    Thanks for posting.

BTW: I hate the tailpipes. They look ridiculous, cheap and Porsche unworthy. A real rip-off since this seems to be part of a strategy to sell the sport exhaust and/or nicer tailpipes later on. Who wants to take a bet?

Re: Red Alert, two vehicle distribution bulletins!!!

Did you order the 'rear leather center console' ?
If not there is no leather to damage. It's all plastic.
If you did , I still would not worry , it's easy to remove the parts needed to install the SS.
BTW : did you test the normal shifter ? I have tested both and actually preferred the normal one. It is plenty short and more important , shifting is smooth as silk. The SS is so notchy that I got tired of it pretty quick.

Re: Red Alert, two vehicle distribution bulletins!!!

Given the pics of 997 facelift testing on AB w/paddleshifters (see 997 board), how long before 997TT Tip gets paddleshifters (like the MB 65 has...from which P buys the tranny )????

Seems like various poss short-term changes to 997TT Tip (?paddleshifters in next 2-3 mos and PDK in 12-18 mos)...and given its egregiously high deprec cost (after first 2-3 mos of tight supply in CA), will have to view 599 as a much cheaper alternative to the potentially rapidly obsolescent (and depreciating) 997TT Tip w/archaic shift buttons....

Don't worry. The Powerkit and PDK will put the 997TT into the 430 price braket with 599-like performance.

In US, a loaded 997TT Tip costs $150K and loaded 599 will be $300K....but after a yr and 15K mis of use, I suspect that 997TT's trade-in value will be $100K and 599's will be roughly $300K (new, early 599s have a $100-150K prem now and US only gets about 150/yr 599s)....in US, 599 appears to be an awfully cheap alternative to 997TT

Now, if 599 had equivalent active/passive safety vs 997TT, the decision would be a no-brainer.....

Get a weekend house somewhere in Bavaria and buy a 599 in Europe. That way, you can have one for a fair price ad actually enjoy it.

Re: Red Alert, two vehicle distribution bulletins!!!

Crash, if I lived in NYC/Lond, I'd definitely have a wkend house in Munich to keep and properly drive my 599...

But getting a 599 @MSRP (not as difficult as often portrayed ) and driving a 599 around the "poor man's" version of Munich, SF, isn't such a bad scenario....besides, 599s don't seem to have winter tires/wheels to navigate those Munich winters....

I've been to SF three years ago. I almost froze to death at the Golden gate, and it was mid July . I'd prefer Munich. At least I know when the cold is supposed to come .

Re: Red Alert, two vehicle distribution bulletins!!!
